Pendant lighting size for kitchen island
Comments (16)Thank you, but I don't consider it a poor design. It's what I wanted and what will fit in the space allowed. What you all don't realize is that it is an L shaped in-law apartment above a garage in my daughter's house. I have no need for a stove, I don't cook much. Portable devices are fine for me and if I want to do anythinig else I can just run downstairs to my daughter's kitchen. I would only put 2 seats there anyway, and if that's not comfortable, I only NEED one for ME. And yes, that is not the question. I just want to know if the lights I picked are too big. I've seen plenty of pictures on this website with large pendants over small spaces. So, general concensus.. yes 3 lights will look fine or no they are too big... simple, no? And the 3 holes/connections have all ready been put in the ceiling for the lights. It's a plaster ceiling so I will be sticking with 3 lights. I'll just pick something out that is smaller in width & length....See Morekitchen lighting dilemma - pendants or recessed over island
Comments (5)Your concerns are very valid, and there is absolutely no need to have pendant lighting if you have can lighting there. I'm from a family of tall people and really understand wanting the upper visual space to feel open. Keep the extra light you've added. It's always safer to have extra light than to miss it, and you can put those lights on dimmers to adjust the levels to the need of the moment....See MorePendant light over kitchen cooktop island dilemma.
Comments (9)I assume you've tried frosted bulbs already, right? Pendants for task lighting are always tricky. Your lights look really good in there when they are off but I think you need to replace them with something more like what Nancy used. An opaque shade--even thick frosted glass--is what you need. If you feel crafty, try putting frosted window film over the sides of the shades. Swap to LED lights in case it doesn't respond well to heat. Once you can't see through the shades, these disguised or new ones, you can use any ugly-but-practical bulb you like, like spotlight style bulbs. Once I swagged an old Tiffany-style stained glass shade over a cooktop. I bet that's not the look you want. But I needed light. :)...See MoreKitchen island pendant lighting
Comments (5)I love a simple lantern - esp since it lights more of the room and not just projects light downward toward the counter (but just a personal preference) also love the bone china pendants from BTC Original - they create the nicest light...See MoreDana P
