kitchen lighting dilemma - pendants or recessed over island

My husband and I are in the process of building a new home and we are getting bogged down in the details of the electrical plan in the kitchen. The original plan calls for recessed lights near the cabinets and 2 pendants over the island. We’re both pretty tall and not huge fans of pendants dangling in our line of sight, so we asked for them to be replaced with 2 recessed lights for a more streamlined look, but now I’m second guessing. It seems like everyone else on the planet LOVES pendants and I’m wondering if we’re missing something or making a mistake. Kitchen is open to dining room, which will have a chandelier of some sort, and living/family room, which will have a ceiling fan. I’m attaching a picture of the electrical plan with our changes in red. I’d also be interested if anyone had feedback on the can we added between the island and the family room (the one in a red box). It seemed like a large area without a light, but maybe that extra can is unnecessary?
