New Home - 2nd Attempt at an Urban Garden

6 years ago

Hello folks! I use to post on here frequently, oh 3-4 years back when I had a yard. I've been rocking an apt for almost 2 years with only 500 sqft and a tiny balcony.

I'm in the process of closing on a new home now and might have it as soon as June 1st. I was hoping I could get some insight into the following goals I have. I'm also trying to stay on the cheap end as I'm a lady, single-income, and home owner (and business owner). I know this is rather open ended, but any suggestions/guidance would be loved.

Zone / NE Texas / 8a 8b

* Gardening with the intent for it to be 50% of my food in 2-3 years.
* Chickens / Bees
* Food Forest vs Raised Beds vs In Ground
* Root Cellar? (Trashcan in the ground or something).

I'll have .3 acres to work with, about 1/10th full sun. Is this enough for me as a single lady to be 50% food self sustainable?
