Wallside windows (vinyl) vs other options?

I am taking on a 2-phase renovation of our home.

Renovation one is the entire back of the house. This will bring the house down to the studs and we will be redesigning everything. Therefore the windows we choose will be our long-term windows.

In the meantime, the remainder of the home will be left untouched however I do see we need new windows until we can get to phase 2 (which could be anywhere from 2-5 years down the road). That being said, I do not want to invest in expensive windows.

If you wanted an efficient, inexpensive, window for the short term, what would you choose? We got a quote from wallside windows. It was $10K for 14 standard size windows and 2 picture windows.

The windows are double hung. Colonial-style.

- U factor = .29

- Solar Heat Gain = .50

- Dual seal silicone / stainless spacer

- FlexScreen included. Hides in window screen pocket.

I am located in Southeast Michigan.

Any thoughts? I am not a window expert at all!

Also, what windows would you suggest for the newly renovated portion of the home? RIght now we have Anderson 100 on the bid. But should we go Marvin integrity? We cannot afford wood windows. Thanks!
