Help selecting paint colors for our tudor exterior
Comments (19)When we bought our house the previous owners had painted the timbers to match the original (water-stained, never painted) stucco. I wanted it to look more like a traditional Tudor so I took a shade from the darkest brick for the timbers and something close the mortar color (but a bit warmer) for the stucco. I love your stone! If I had your house I'd take a dark shade from the stone, and considering the roof color, use a brown for the timbers and a natural stucco color as in Pal's example. Remember the that the sun can fade or wash out the paint when you pick your colors... There are many Tudor style homes here (Kansas City area) and I see so many variations. A lot homes with stone do the timbers in a lighter tone than the stucco and they look great too, more French Country IMO. Your present colors don't suit the stone or the roof - but you have so much potential!!! Good luck!...See MoreNeed help with exterior colors for mock Tudor home with yellow brick.
Comments (4)are you open to repainting the brick or does it have to stay yellow? If that's the natural color, fine (I thought it was already painted). perhaps a good power washing would help brighten it up a bit. I love the leaded windows off to the right. don't ever change those! normally the stucco portion is light and dark contrasting color goes on the wood trim&shutters. if you could do the brick in a dark gray, you could do something like this (except I'd pick a darker trim color.)...See MoreHelp! Comments (7)The overall look of your house is Tudor, but it has a lot of other elements tacked on that make it a mix of different styles. Thank the builder gods that you don't have a humongous double garage facing the front. Do not paint stone or brick or you'll be stuck with maintenance forever. Do not add shutters, which will add yet another style element to this blend of different styles. (The house below does have a double pair, though, if you're bent on them.) I'm not sure you can "update" something that doesn't have a single style. The current color actually does pull the stone and brick together. If you want the Tudor style to stand out, them do what Housson suggests picking a shade of the roof color for the timbers. Your stone entrance could use a little more drama with much larger light sconces. It's a shame the landscaping doesn't enhance the house as much as it could. A curved walkway farther out so that you could have more dramatic planting beds would have set off the house more impressively. What you have is fine but more suited to a smaller house....See MoreTudor Exterior Color Help!!!
Comments (21)nice! what you can do is do the Carriage Hardware (Amazon) to the doors. It's cheap and easy and adds character. And when it comes time to paint, just paint the doors a darker color. I like the first combo (first pic) showing the Gray siding above the garage doors. I think that darker color would look nice w/the brick. I also think removing the faux tudor trim and modernizing the exterior would be your best bet. keep in mind, your brick has Mauve and Taupe tones to it, nothing in the yellow scheme is going to look right! those whites I gave you in the one pic are all pink (or actually red) undertones and should be the right color. Ditto w/the grays. you want more taupe grays rather than blue grays or yellow grays. start looking at pictures of split-level redo's , or whatever year this home was built, look at rehab exteriors. the two links I posted should also give you some help on how to modernize. it's really hard to see this house in your pics because of the overgrown foliage. I'm sure landscaping is on your 'to-do' list too!...See MoreCarrieHund
