Need help with exterior colors for mock Tudor home with yellow brick.
Comments (4)are you open to repainting the brick or does it have to stay yellow? If that's the natural color, fine (I thought it was already painted). perhaps a good power washing would help brighten it up a bit. I love the leaded windows off to the right. don't ever change those! normally the stucco portion is light and dark contrasting color goes on the wood trim&shutters. if you could do the brick in a dark gray, you could do something like this (except I'd pick a darker trim color.)...See MoreHelp with Tudor style exterior color renovation
Comments (16)I have a different take on this house. I find the 2 tudor peaks odd. There is no other Tudor detail anywhere else on the front of the house and while the peaks are the same shape, they have different detailing. I would change this so that the peaks look exactly the same, maybe adding a window to the left side. I would replace the Tudor details with decorative siding and paint the same colour as the trim. As for painting the brick, I would start by painting all the trim a lighter colour (including the peaks) then see how it looks. This is a very pretty house and would look better in a light colour. But because it's a big decision, perhaps go in stages and leave the decision to paint the brick to the very last. Good luck!...See MorePlease help with exterior colors & lighting for 1930s Tudor
Comments (0)We are having our house painted next month. Here it is currently: I would eventually like to have the roof replaced (when necessary — not for many years) with cedar shakes, and some day I’d like to have copper gutters and a black and creme color scheme. I’d like to move in this direction, but not sure whether dark half-timbering would look odd with a brown roof, or if creme would be too light for the stone. I’d love feedback about either of these options: Second, can anyone suggest a nice bedroom ceiling light fixture with 2+ bulbs? I like schoolhouse lights, but they seem to use only one bulb, which I think may make the room too dark. The bedroom ceilings are only 7’6” high, and I am looking for something approximating an original 1930s fixture. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!...See MoreHelp! Comments (6)Well this is a very good example of why downspouts shouldn't be painted out as trim- they are not architectural elements and shouldn't be highlighted as such. The big problem here is that the façade (front) of the house was remodeled but the original brick and siding was left on the side, so you're seeing a mishmash and all of these elements would too much for me to think through, I have the same concerns you have so I'd keep looking for another house, you don't need to settle for something you don't like....See MoreKimberly Dean
