Comments (5)Some photos would help. There are many plants that I could recommend, but much depends upon how they are going to be used. Will these plants be on slopes, road strips or in front yards, for example. Who is going to remove what is there now for the renovation, and what is going to be left in place? Is it going to be done all at once, or in phases? Is anyone qualified to develop a thorough landscape design? What is your current irrigation system(s) and is it going to be changed? Even low water plants need to be allowed to get established first. These are just a few of the many questions that really should be answered before you proceed. Many drought tollerant plants are not "desert-type brown". Honest. Especially for the Orange County climate. Comments (3)I have ivy that is old, congested and has a thick layer of roots, (some are 3" thick) covering a steep bank near my driveway that seems to be effectively keeping erosion under control. It is visible as you drive up to my house, and it has looked very bad the last couple of years because the roots show through and the green is spotty and appears dry despite adequate water. It is very invasive but I don't want to try to replace it.... too much work! I just want to make it look better so I've cut off the surface layer and my helper and I are hacking at the roots to try to thin it out. I expect it will come back and look better this summer. Please advise if there is anything I should do. Wish I could post a photo but I don't know how. Thank you, Joan from Ashland OR...See MoreNeed a ground cover recommendation for a slope in z9a
Comments (10)Irma, I live in an apartment complex, and no one else around here gardens outside, just in their courtyards. I don't want one that doesn't spread. I want one that doesn't get out of control. The sun is variable depending on the seasons. Some of it gets a lot of afternoon sun, some is in shade most of the day. In the winter, it gets more sun when the leaves fall off the trees. I wish I could afford to put in mondo grass, but it's not my yard, so unless someone gives me a huge amount of it, I won't use that....See More- 6 years ago
