Just brought a Wolf CSO on clearance do I really need a full size oven

Happened to stop at the local appliance store and found the Wolf CSO for a great price. I had gone there to look at the Miele. I cook for 2 and rarely entertain so am seriously considering not purchasing a second wall oven. I think the Wolf will do everything I need but broil. Is there a reason not to do this other than resale?

Planning on the following for the new build:

Wolf CSO

30" induction cooktop

Bosch dishwasher

Fisher and Paykel CD 31" fridge.

There's just some things that won't fit in the smaller oven. I suppose you could go the rest of your life without cooking a turkey or normal sized pizza. Or broil anything.

Plus it's very nice having two ovens.

I'd make room for a standard oven doesn't need to be a wolf or similarly expensive appliance though.

Would you miss a broiler? What do you use your current oven for now that makes you think you need a larger one? Keep in mind that the maximum temperature the combi can reach is 435 (I think). Is that sufficient for your needs?

I also cook for 2 and generally don't entertain more than 6 people at one time. I have both a regular and combi. I use the combi most of the time, but I do like having the larger oven for cookies and pizza and Yorkshire pudding. My large le Crueset pot doesn't fit in the combi very well either, so I use the large oven for it. On the other hand I cooked an amazing turkey in my CSO last Christmas (14 lb).

David, I was referring to your linked thread and what you said about it. Here, in this thread, brand names have been included by many in the discussion of function to provide concrete examples. This is useful for people who actually want to buy an oven, not just talk theory. Recently, I spent a lot of time shopping carefully looking for a simple oven with simple controls for an elderly woman who doesn't want to adapt her cooking to a new appliance, but wants the oven to act like any oven she's had before. She can't see well enough to use a touch display. I have been utterly dismayed by the lack of decent plain old ovens out there, which turn on, get hot, hold heat. Right now, we're trying to see if we can get her old oven restored. If that fails, I'm going to check out your very useful brand name suggestion from the other thread about the Ikea oven. It's one that had escaped my notice before--oh...because it doesn't come in the right size. Ikea might be an example of a cheap one that functions as well as a fancy one, from the reviews I've just read. Much better reviews than some of the mid-range units. It's very unfortunate that the ne plus ultra of energy savings seems to have trumped cooking/baking function in the current goals of oven design. No wonder rich people are putting wood fired ovens in their homes.

You can never have enough ovens. We have a 30" oven in addition to a 24" CSO and a 24" SpeedOven (incidentally, this is a wonderful combination). And still, there has been at least one meal, when I had to add a fourth improvised oven by using the gas grill on the deck. I also had to use a portable warming chest, and had to prepare a careful schedule for when to use which appliance. But then, I was cooking multiple courses for a gathering of more than 100 guests. Realistically though, 99% of the time, the combination of those two ovens should be enough. You might just have to do a little bit of planning on the rare occasions that you make huge amounts of food. But if budget is flexible, adding the SpeedOven wouldn't hurt. It's a good oven in its own right, and it can always serve as a great overflow option, when things get really tight. Is it mandatory? No, not at all? Will you enjoy having bought it? Yes, probably. It's a convenient luxury, if you regularly cook a lot.

Cleaning is pretty easy, as long as you don't expect the oven to ever look factory new. My oven cavity has a couple of minor but permanent stains. Doesn't bother me at all, but I just want to make sure to set the right expectations. As for plumbed vs non-plumbed, we deliberately chose the plumbed model and we are very happy with this choice. It makes it so much more likely that I'll add steam every single time, rather than skipping it, because I am too lazy to refill the water. Also, it allows me to cook things that take a long time. The CSO has very precise temperature control and thus makes for a very convenient alternative to an immersion boiler for sous vide cooking. But that can take many hours of cook time, and with a water container you have to worry about refilling ti. I do understand the concern about water leaks though. Realistically, it's no different from ice makers, dishwashers, and other appliances. These don't fail frequently, but they do occasionally spring leaks. And that's why we put a drain pan underneath the CSO. It drains into the same pipe that the oven drains into. Hopefully, we'll never need that feature. But it does give me peace of mind, and my contractor didn't think it was all that difficult to add into our cabinet.

I think for a lot of people a CSO as an only oven is a good way to go. Americans have this idea that bigger is better and that we all need huge ovens (some do, but thats another topic) but that's not really the case. For a lot of people their huge oven gets used once a year - Thanksgiving turkey. We had small ovens (once a really really tiny oven) for years in Europe and still had delicious meals from them. I don't know about the Wolf but our Miele CSO has plenty of capability. We couldn't do big sheets of cookies but we can do a lot of other stuff.

I agree with the points above and also think that if you ever sell your home and there is not a wall oven or an easy spot to install one, that would be a detriment to most people.

Looking at this oven. Affordable, I like the styling and the handle is similar to the Wolf CSO. I can't find to many reviews for this brand though.
