Help. Double or single wall oven/How often do you use 2 ovens?
Comments (23)An update. We purchased a Fisher and Paykel double oven for $2600 delivered from an authorized dealer over Ebay of all places. I checked the wiring to our old oven and I was amazed to discover that although it was a 30 amp breaker they had used 8 gauge wire. I installed a 40 amp breaker and we were good to go. As mentioned in this thread, when you have the option of two dishes that require different temps. and oven modes to prepare you use what you have. Our menus have expanded since we installed the double oven. We purchased a countertop microwave in stainless to match the ovens. So far the biggest difference is that the FP oven is far superior compared to the Jennair that we had. I never thought that an oven would make such a difference. The same recipes taste so much better. Even a simple dish like roasted new potatoes with rosemary have a creamier texture while still remaining crisp. Based on my experience I would not hesitate recommending a double oven if you can accommodate them n your kitchen. Thanks for the advice offered.......See MoreDo you use the 'fancy' oven modes?
Comments (6)Speaking from experience, I will use many of the "fancy" options. I'm one of those people who loves to experiment with different programs. Every time I get a "new and improved" appliance, I devour the user guide and then start playing! E.g., we just got a new dryer and I've tried every cycle to see what works best with what materials...and while I do have a "My Cycle" set, it's only used about 50% of the time...I use all but one cycle on a fairly regular basis (I don't use the Dryel cycle---yet---since I don't have a Dryel "set") I do the same with computer software; I rarely use the "default" toolbars or settings, I thoroughly customize everything. I have the attitude of "I want to do XXX. OK, there's no obvious way, but I bet I can find a way...and off I go! So I think it may be the type of person you are...are you more "technical" or "analytical" minded? As to our mothers...they did a lot of driving around looking at different brands/models. My mom always started at Sears since they seemed to have the biggest overall selection...but she bought/buys from a local "mom & pop" appliance store that has more personalized service. I can't wait for my new appliances so I can start playing again!...See MoreDouble wall oven, do I really need it?
Comments (24)The need for double ovens finally put me over the edge to do my kitchen when one of my college kids came home as a vegetarian who will eat fish, so now along with the turkey I also have to cook a decent amount of FISH. Not to mention that when you have the double ovens, at least for me, it is much easier to plan and have gatherings more than just at thanksgiving! I have my cooktop, over the range convection microwave, and my double ovens and I have had all those cranking at the same time and now seem to be doing it more and more often! If you have a growing family, chances are at some point you will want to keep your family close and we have done that at our house by making time for big extended-family get togethers on a regular basis and all of them seem to center around the food. So although the food seems central, at least we are all together and close and that has been a big thing for me. We do Thanksgiving, Gingerbread houses (for 10 - 15 at times), Christmas eve, March birthdays, Easter, June Birthdays, Father's day, and September Birthdays. I didn't even realize we did this many get togethers, but there it is. They are all traditions in our house and hopefully years down the road, my kids will remember...and if they don't, I will :)...See MoreMicrowave/Oven help. What do I really need.
Comments (5)I have a Miele speed oven and I love it. It's our go to oven and we use it every day. But we only have one other oven-in our 36" range. That said I don't think you need a speed oven since you have the two ovens in your range, both of which are convection. I think all you need is a microwave, unless you really feel the need for a third oven. I love that the speed oven heats up very fast and food cooks more quickly in it, but not a lot more quickly imo. And we like having a microwave but didn't want a stand alone microwave since we don't use one very often. So a speed oven was the perfect option for us. If I had a 48" range I doubt I'd feel the need for a speed oven too unless I was a huge baker which I'm not. I think your smaller oven will be perfect for everyday much like a speed oven....See Moredavidro1
