2 CSO Miele XXL and not 30" CO?

I previously had a 48" professional gas range that looked enormous (and it was on top, 6 burners and a griddle was more than I would ever need) but it only had two small European sized ovens down below. Comments (21)future_retiree We have decided three wall ovens is the optimum number for the cooking we do, YMMV. These will be our only ovens and this number is quite common today. As per the link you provided, many kitchens use a XXL + 2 XL ovens + coffee machine. This same kitchen might also have a large range with one or two inbuilt ovens, which would make a total of four or five ovens. It's not about the total quality of food one cooks at a single time, that is a common misconception for the reasoning behind having multiple ovens. I'm not having much luck with the search function on here. If you could please provide the link to the thread about the heat-up time between the XL/XXL ovens. I have been to a Miele Centre multiple times and the level of assistance from their sales staff who can barely describe the feature set of various models on the floor is staggering. I wouldn't have the confidence in asking them for design config suggestions. chispa We had contemplated getting a XXL CO but when a CSO can do everything we need it is had to pass up that versatility. The only reason we would get a pyro is for the cleaning function which we may still consider installing in place of a XXL CSO. The final appliance list has still not been finalised. Yes, all the Miele CSO models we are considering are the fully plumbed versions. Simple_Mind 1. That Idea kitchen render is only dimensionally accurate. The pictured wall oven height will be repositioned to a normal arm level. 2. Yes, we are aware of the tradeoffs when it comes to CSO's, everything is a compromise and we all have to make our choices. 3. For what we cook, 435F is not a problem. 4. We did cross-shop Gaggenau but their offerings did not appeal and we actually prefer the design of Miele. No disrespect to those who prefer them, from what I've seen that do make excellent products. RoyHobbs That is where the walkway from the front door comes through into the kitchen. The only other option for us would be 2 XL CSO's and 1 XXL CO. Will will be going full induction for our cooktop. We already have a gas BBQ in our alfresco area that fills our gas cooking desires. I can't argue with having two dishwashers though. If we had an extra room I can certainly see the benefits but I am pushing things as they are and wanting to save room for food storage in what is left of the kitchen. On the contrary, having three large ovens does not mean we will be cooking voluminous table fulls of food. What it does offer is cooking flexibility when preparing different ingredients at separate temperatures that a single over could never hope to match. We will be keeping our current fridge which can be seen opposite the proposed oven location, it is 56". Debbi Washburn Opposite the ovens is our double fridge/freezer. To the left of the picture there is a 3.5'x7' kitchen island for additional benchspace. TXGuy thanks for your suggestions. We just wouldn't use the warming or vacuum drawer so for us it would be a waste, although I'm sure there are those who love them and this is fine. That's why there are so many choices, not everyone wants the same thing. The biggest decision for us I think will be with this kitchen remodel is whether to go for one CO and two CSO. And if what size to get, if three XXL models would more appropriate. Comments (12)> You cannot install the plumbed one below counter as it does not have a drain pump to pump excess water. It relies on gravity flow. I'm 100% certain you can install below counter top if the drain line goes into a basement or other room below the kitchen, and the drain hose and "air gap" is connected below the floor and not to a kitchen sink's drain pipes. I've seen it done multiple times and passed code inspections with no issues whatsoever. Of course it depends on local codes. IMO some of the Miele Plumbed CSO install drawings are not 100% inclusive of all the possibilities. Look at the installation specifications, not the drawings because the drawings may not cover all possibilities. And on top of this the drawings vary by model-series, e.g., the 6000 (a few years old now) vs the (now current) 7000 series. One point I see consistent in Miele specs always (always = in every CSO model I've looked at) is a 19-11/16 inch maximum elevation difference between the bottom of a kitchen sink trap ( also called a sewer gas trap or an "S" trap). If you were to position a plumbed CSO below counter top in many cases you could not satisfy this 19-11/16 in limit (because you'd need more than 19 11/16 in. to connect into the sink drain pipe). However if you were to run the CST drain hose through the floor and into an indirect drain in a basement, (example, drain ends with an air gap into a utility sink/tub) you will have meet this requirement. Suggest you get a competent plumber involved, he/she will have no trouble figuring this out from Miele's specs and local codes in a few minutes. S Shr you mentioned asking the appliance dealer this question. IMO and IME this is not a good source, the dealers are not licensed plumbers nor are they very knowledgeable with plumbing codes (there are rare, very rare, exceptions). Do you think the dealer will be present when you have plumbing code inspections done? No, for anyone who has any doubt. Show the specs to a plumber, or better yet, point him to the miele website and give him the model number, and ask him your question....See MoreSteam oven & Speed oven overkill? Comments (9)I don't have an answer for you, but am compelled to comment because of how similar a situation we are in. I am South Asian also, do a whole lot of cooking (albeit vegetarian) including how you put it: "big projects". Our shortlist also consists of either a Gaggenau CSO + Speed OveOvOveOvno , OR a Miele CSO + Speed Oven. Basically, other than the Lacanche (we're going for a full induction cooktop), our situation is the same as yours! In both options, the Speed Oven has been chosen only to serve as an aesthetic match to the CSO, with the intention of only just using it as a microwave. And yes its like buying a $5-$6k microwave and never actually using the "oven" part of it. I feel like it's a waste. Here are some thoughts I've been having so far - * I do not want to deal with CSO water tanks. We have a Jenn Air steam oven in our other condo and while it's not all that cumbersome to fill the reservoir manually, I've always wanted to upgrade to a fully plumbed steam oven for the main house. Sometimes if I forget to drain the manual reservoir, it is standing/stale water in there for months (depending on when I use it next) and I'd like to avoid that situation. So, our CSO will be plumbed. In both options, the Speed Oven has been chosen only to serveras an aesthetic match to the CSO, with the intention of only just using it as a microwave. And yes its like buying a $5-$6k microwave and never actually using the "oven" part of it. I feel like it's a waste. modern finish, we opted for the Thermador rather than the Bosch (which I believe makes all microwave drawers anyway) and I can no longer stand the fact that there is no backlighting on the buttons. It's been about 4 years and I still half guess the buttons that I press to operate the microwave because I can no longer be bothered to bend down to look closely at what I am pressing. We now have young kids and getting them to keep their fingers away when closing the microwave drawer causes anxiety. Finally, if you're like other south asians and have your parents/elderly folks visit you, they will hate you for making them use such a microwave :) So all that is to say, I do not want a microwave drawer ever again. And I also think the speed oven is wasteful and overkill. So, I am curious to hear what others say and please also let me know what you decide! I like @cheri127's idea of a built-in microwave of some sort and will look at that. It would be a shame to lose the classic Gaggenau aesthetic of the steam oven + speed oven combo stacked such that their operating knobs are next to each other :) I will say, Miele thankfully has a microwave-only option without the speed oven stuff built into it - Miele - M 7240 TC AM Clean Touch Steel – Microwave Ovens (mieleusa.com) . At least the cost is a bit more palatable, but it has more basic controls (no M touch, etc.). I'm exploring this as an option if I decide to go Miele instead of Gaggenau....See MoreM
