On the wait until later train of thought: in the time between now and when you'll reno this kitchen, hang out here and find out all kinds of interesting stuff. You'll definitely not want to repeat the electrical switches and outlets which stick out like sore (& mismatched!) thumbs on the tile backsplash. You'll find alternatives here. You'll probably want your new cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling - check out others' kitchens to be sure. You can participate in agonizing over which granite, or maybe quartz, or soapstone, or laminate? Is there room for a pantry somewhere? You'll find things that others' do that you love and never would have thought of and things that you'll *know* you'd never want in your kitchen. Consider both the subway tile and just a bold blue at the stove area. Try to get something close to the island color (or a blue that complements the island). What ever your decision make sure they add a row below the counter at the stove area, why? If the new owners decide to put in a slide in stove (one without the back controls) you want to make sure the tile is below the top of the stove. I mention this because if you are selling soon and I was the buyer, the stove would be one of my replacements and I like when the tile behind the stove is a focal point. Also subway tile is inexpensive so just doing a limited space with something unique will make it pop. Love the kitchen and all the best.

First, your inspirational photo has less wood and the painted parts look like a pale sage color not white. Sage moderates wood. So follow this pattern of painted hood etc. especially in smaller space. Too much wood can be dark and closed in feeling.
