Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

which shade of white for kitchen cabinets and blue/gray for island

We are planning a kitchen remodel and are planning on doing white cabinets with a blue/gray island.

We are thinking of using Cambria Carrick counters (a light gray) with the white cabinets and Cambria Brittanica for the island. I am wondering which particular white pairs well with gray countertops and which blue/gray color pairs well with Brittanica, which is a whitish gray countertop with large gray streaks, similar look to marble but it's quartz.

Look at Benjamin Moore's White Dove for the cabinets.

Thank you! All of the backsplash tile is from Fireclay. The decorative tile is part of their hand painted collection. I think the pattern was called Valencia. I chose the colors. I did have a bad experience with them. They sent the wrong tile several times over and I ended up short on hand painted pieces because I finally told them to forget it. This changed my original layout, but in the end it worked out well enough. Fireclay did refund my entire tile order, however (several thousand dollars), so I’m not sure if I’d ever use them again or not.

My kitchen is open to my living room. We have white cabinets (Medallion White Icing) on the perimeters with BM Mineral Alloy on the island. Super White on the counters throughout with white 2x8 subway tiles. We also get ample light. I love blue, but was hesitant that I would tire of an entire blue kitchen. I feel our blue island (it's ~9x5) gives enough pop of color. Walls in adjoining rooms are BM Manchester Tan. Do take into consideration the decor in your living room. When we built 5 years ago, my furniture was very much earth tones which went well in our previous home. The stools in the above photo were from our old home which had natural cherry shaker cabinets. They have since been changed out. Still not happy with what I have, however. I've slowly changed the living room furniture so that the two rooms blend better. This is a picture I just snapped (sorry for the clutter). End table and sofa are all that's left from when we moved in. I'm still struggling with what to do with the sofa, but that's another thread.

Helpful comment, Cambria.

Here are my thoughts…and not on color, as both chloebud and Cambria have covered that issue.

My thought is the the Brittanica go on the island and the Carrick run the perimeter.

I have always associated a marble look for islands, because my grandmother had that in her large pantry and said it was the best for rolling out pie dough.

Now you have white on gray and the perimeter is gray on white.

IMO you either have a different counter for the island or the same counters everyhwere with a different color cabinet for the island but not both.

Thank you very much everyone! Hmm, interesting perspective Patricia. I don't know that I necessarily agree. I've seen 100's of pictures, including on houzz, where the island is both a different color from cabinets and has a different countertop and if done right, looks lovely. I wonder if it depends on the space itself, such as the size or layout of the kitchen, what room it abuts and maybe how much natural light it gets?
