Getting rid of ants in pavers and question about ant dust

The pavers on my front door has lots of ant mounds. I don't mind ants in the garden, but not in the pavers and at the front door where they will probably make their way into the house.

When I get ants in the house, I often use the Terro ant liquid, which works pretty well. A drop of liquid usually gets rid of the ants after a few days. However, it doesn't seemed to work outdoors. I laid out one of the liquid traps and it would get filled up with ants, but I still have ant hills. May be the ant liquid doesn't work on a large scale.

The guy at the hardware store sold me some ant dust, but now I have some reservations. I was just going to sprinkle some on the paver over the mounds, but what if my kids track through it with bare feet or the neighbor's dog come by and lick it.

How do you think I should proceed?
