Dark Purple goes with it. I did my bathroom with pale pink towels and accessories. I imagine a bright orange would work nicely (search for pipdog's living room and see the orange with gray/blue). And of course, yellow works well with gray as well. As I noticed when our house was empty, the gray walls without any other color and decor in the room really did look "challenging". I have to keep telling myself this when I see my new house after it's painted--I picked Smoke Embers,the chip below Nimbus. Nimbus is gorgeous, and I like I said, I used it in my previous home in several places. Also white, it looks great with white. And dark brown. And black. And check your lightbulbs down there in the basement. They could be throwing things off for you.

Neutral colors are a mix of different colors, so depending on what you have next to your neutral the neutral color appears to pink or blue or green or yellow. It really isn't a foreign concept to most women, we just haven't thought about paint color the same way we look at makeup and clothing. My sister has an olive skin tone and medium brown hair, I have an ivory skin tone and dark hair and my sister in law has blond hair, blue eyes and a fair golden skin tone. We don't look good in the same colors. Your home is full of colors. What looks good next to my purples and purple reds and smokey teals won't look good next to my sister's greens and golds and orange reds or next to my sister in law's cornflower blue, peach and butter yellows. We each had to pick neutrals that went with the decor and flooring and woods that fill our home. Can you imagine my purples, reds and teals with a moss green neutral a yellow tan or is it better with a taupe that has slightly purple undertones? Below is a demonstration of how neutrals can look very different based on the colors around them. Both sections have one color in the center of each block. It is the same color in each block all the way across the page, yet the color appears more pink or green or yellow or blue depending on the color next to it. If edgecomb gray is picking up purple you probably have yellow undertones around it. Edgecomb gray is a pretty solid neutral with just a hair more pink and less green than revere pewter. Baby Fawn or tapestry beige may work nicely - just a bit less pink/purple undertones and a hair more yellow. I would recommend that you pick your flooring before picking the paint color because it could also change the perceived wall color. If you can gather together samples of the colors that are staying and lay them out on a white sheet in natural daylight (I like to do this outside on a clear day) and look at a bunch of neutral swatches next to the colors you will start seeing the patterns. More yellow looks better or grayer looks better a little more green looks better.

You need to understand that color is 3 dimensional, hue is only one part of the equation. The 90 degree hue at low chroma levels and light luminosity is just slightly orange (ish) yellow. See below where it is shown next to a neutral gray (upper left corner). Yellow is unique in that we don't see dark yellow (think about powder blue and navy). Now picture powder yellow and try to picture a yellow that would be comparable to navy. It goes to gold and then to brown. As we desaturate yellow it goes to olive green. You also need to understand that because the human brain ingests so much information we group the information coming into our brain and we automatically compare colors. Painting samples on your wall means that you are seeing the color in comparison to whatever color is currently on the wall. I suspect that you have a lot of greens in your space in addition to the green in the kitchen and possibly have a bit of green undertone in the wall color that you are painting over. I have the opposite problem as you do with Edgecomb Gray - it is far too yellow/green (looks like an old yellowed tooth). I have a lot of pinks, reds, purples including a large pink brick fireplace wall. The center blocks below are all Edgecomb Gray. Can you see why it turns yellow for me and fleshy orange for you? To test the colors you really need to be looking at the colors without the influence of your current wall color. Prime the wall white or use large white poster board behind the samples. Look at the colors next to all colors that are going to stay. (Flooring, trim, furniture). Edgecomb Gray will always have just the slightest orange tinge. It will probably never look good with your colors. Do you like how light/dark it appears (LRV or Luminosity)? If so you want to try some colors with similar luminosity and chroma, but increase the hue. Here are some I have in my file: My sister has a home with a lot of green undertones and if I were pulling colors for her home I would start with SW Sedate Gray, BM Hazy Skies and BM Paris Rain.
