Tib, I made the paint decision on the fly in a moment of "there are too many paint colours in the world and the rest of my house is CO colours"! I was looking at the pale oak, for the walls perhaps! Portland grey looks nice and light as well. Ok, look I'm going for...rustic (without looking like a lodge), serene and put together but cozy. So if anyone wants to buy me some rough linen bedding, I'm taking up a collection:) Thank you for your patience. This is all from a dishwasher flood 1.5 years ago. The kitchen still isn't done and the restoration company drove me insane, so talk about creep! Well if we're doing this, let's do that, oh, and this other thing should be done before that other thing or it'll be that much extra work and $ to do it later. So because if the dishwasher and a kitchen redo, it ended up to all new millwork in the house, new floors everywhere, new paint everywhere, and just growing into our house and not being constrained to conventional for our area. Because we love our area and our house, but it needed to grow with us too. We're on a journey of finding ourselves :) I also am gutting our ensuite. The people are in the midst of designing it, so don't worry, helping me pick the same tile for our laundry room is small potatoes compared to what I'm going to be asking of you all!

Thanks everybody for your input. The shaker cabinets are new -- so that's why I hesitate to paint them. True, the lighting in the kitchen isn't that great -- so perhaps it would be difficult for people to notice the difference. I would love, however, to change the hardware. Currently they are the tubular pulls which seem too contemporary for this pre-war apartment. I know I may have to paint the cabinets depending on the new hardware I select. If I can fill in the holes with wood filler and have it paint so it would be seamless, I'd leave it as it is. But not sure if that will happen. If I end up having to paint the cabinets, I figure might as well paint them the same color as the trim/moldings. Decorators White looks good in all of the rooms (with the exception of the master bedroom where colors are more muted) because the furniture tends to run on the fresh clean side.

I do not. The way I'm doing the cabinets is in an L shape, but the cabinets will mainly be in one row, and the other end of the L will basically be an attached island with granite table top that does not have any cabinets or drawers beneath (so I can slide some barstools or chairs underneath to save space). Accent wall is directly across the room, so thats why I was thinking the two different grays would not look good together. Unfortunately the cabinets only come in certain colors, and I REALLY don't feel like painting them lol

Would definitely repaint the walls but, since the cabinets are darker than you anticipated, take that into consideration as you choose your paint color. The greater the color contrast, the more stark and visually jarring it will be. For cabinets with dark wood, you might consider a very pale brown -- a tan but without any pink or yellow hue. For the wall above the stove, unless the wall / backsplash you've chosen is specifically intended for behind a stove -- at/near a heat source -- you might consider adding a stainless steel panel to the wall.
