Help! Do I paint my walls to match my Simply White cabinets?

I just did my upper cabinets and pantry in simply white. My lower cabinets are wood and are much darker than I had hoped. In general Simply white is reading a bit more yellow than I would have liked as well. The original plan was to paint simply white on the walls (very little wall space in the kitche) and in the entire breakfast nook, but now I don't know what to do. Do I continue even though it's creamier than I had wanted, but picking something cooler like BM chantilly lace would probably only emphasize the creaminess. Right? I'm so at a loss

Would definitely repaint the walls but, since the cabinets are darker than you anticipated, take that into consideration as you choose your paint color. The greater the color contrast, the more stark and visually jarring it will be. For cabinets with dark wood, you might consider a very pale brown -- a tan but without any pink or yellow hue.

For the wall above the stove, unless the wall / backsplash you've chosen is specifically intended for behind a stove -- at/near a heat source -- you might consider adding a stainless steel panel to the wall.

Some are plain, (some have a pattern - wouldn't want to clean those)

and some have shelves for your S&P and/or a rod for "S" hooks for hanging your stir spoon or spatula, etc., instead of needing an oversized spoon rest -- keeping things handy while you cook:

I wouldn’t add a new white, chantilly lace. Keep all your whites the same as your cabinets, don’t introduce another white. It will look beautiful:)

thank you! that was my gut and i’m sure the “right” thing to do. must husband can’t field more of my anxious regret design question so appreciate the advice!

I had a faux finish on the interior of my door and hated it. Made the interior of the entrance dark and drab. What a difference a paint of coat made on it. I have all stained wood and hardwood. I repainted the interior of my front door just one shade lighter than the walls.

Well you can, but if the paint police find out, I’ll disavow any knowledge of it ;-) You’re not really looking for a “brighter white,” you’re looking for a tile and paint combination with similar undertones. White Dove is a yellow white. If the tile you love makes this apparent, try a white with cooler undertones. Chantilly Lace is beautiful, and much cooler than the White Dove. The only practical reason for not painting the white trim is how tough it will be to go back to white later...your new color loses it impact with all those doors painted bright white...if you love the green i would paint over the doors to get the full effect...or at least the solid doors ...which will be easier to paint and re-paint later

Hi @genevieveo - cute living room! I think if your goal is to make the fireplace more of a focal point, I would go with white to pop against the accent wall. A big however, though! If the adjacent door remains white, you'll have two "L" shapes of color, white with the door and fireplace, dark on the remainder of the wall. I would paint the door and its trim to match the accent color you're planning for the wall. You don't need to change the rest of the room trim, just the door. the couple of spots where the trim meets at the floor should be inconspicuous. Best of luck! - Doug

Those definitely have a vanilla tinge but it is beautiful. My cabs are BM Simply White, but look much whiter than yours. I think your lighting may be the issue. Try cooler LEDs before you make any decisions or changes.

thanks! i could definitely see that making a difference as i have warmer lighting (i generally don’t like the bluish lights but it may help.). Unfortunately it’s more vanilla in natural light too but changing the light bulbs can’t hurt

your kitchen is just beautiful. I would stay the course and use the same whites. In addition to potentially changing the lighting a runner might tie it together as well as pictures and even a few things on the counter. love the two tone kitchen!

As well as maybe , ok I know this sounds weird, and I might be so off. But try a chrome piece of hardware. I wonder if the gold is accenting the yellow tones...

thanks! i thought that too but the hardware just went on yesterday and the tinge was there before (though maybe it is a bit worse with the brass hardware and yellow tape :)) But I’ll try to see if juxtaposing cooler tones helps!

My Simply White cabinets read pure white in my space (north facing). All of my lights have 4000k bulbs, even my UCL. I painted the walls next to my uppers also SW. Not one bit creamy or yellowish. Don't give your situation any pure white to compare to, keep it the same.

To me, at least, two shades of white or off white as the dominate colors in the same room usually end up with one looking dingy.

Are you sure you got BM Simply White?

In my previous house I re-painted all the doors and trim in BM Simply White. When we first painted we still had old/warmer lights and the Simply White still appeared as a nice crisp white.

Did your cabinet company do a sample door for you showing how their cabinet paint would look in BM Simply White? I am building and mine did small paint boards and when those looked good they made a complete door. I used BM Chantilly Lace and the cabinet paint perfectly matches the BM paint chips

Maybe you need more (and better) lighting in front of that pantry/fridge wall?
