Shower curtain advice please
Comments (3)We've just done exactly the same thing. A small basement bath (4.5 x 7.5 feet) with a 36" neo-angle corner shower. We have the room for a glass enclosure with a swinging door, but the door would hit the wall and preclude the use of the small train rack we have planned for it. That along with the massive cost difference has sent us to a curtain. I got a polished nickel neo-angle rod kit from VintageTub.com along with the rings, and will either make an exterior cloth curtain to use with an interior liner or get one from Restoration Hardware / Pottery Barn or the like. Custom glass was going to run $1500+ while the rod, rings and curtains will be about $300-$400 all in, and be more flexible in terms of entry to the shower, no issue of door clearance etc. They definitely can be made to look nice, and for our very traditional bath (console sink, marble counter, marble floor) will be a better match than a frameless glass enclosure. And of course you can always decide to put in a glass enclosure in the future, or let the next owners do it....See MoreNeed advice re shower curtain rod -- type, placement, source, et
Comments (11)Bear in mind that online reviews usually number a handful, so it's hard to determine quality based on reviews. Faucetdirect.com has lots of rods. Brass rods are the most expensive. I bought stainless steel. The Kohler rods would have been my first choice, but my shower is 58", and theirs and many others start at 60". I had to buy Moen and it does look nice. We have good ventilation so I don't think rust will be a problem. Location: Once you have the rod and shower curtain, you'll figure it out pretty quickly. Most shower curtains are 70-72" long. Leaking: Curved rods won't prevent it. I bought a shower curtain liner at BB&B that has suction cups along the sides. Shower curtains: JC Penney, Macy's, Kohl's, BB&B, Pottery Barn, Croscill.com, Overstock.com, etc. I've looked at hundreds and haven't found what I'm looking for. Most look pretty chintzy imo....See MoreCurtains too high? Add roman shades? Accent wall? Looking For Advice.
Comments (17)Thanks again! So if I order these curtains in Ivory: https://www.ballarddesigns.com/fringed-burlap-panel/rugs-drapery/drapery/burlap/162904 Should I get the roman shades in Ivory as well? I found these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hanna-Fabric-Roman-Shades-14-Colors-Free-Shipping-1800-Series/121441358089?hash=item1c46781109%3Am%3Amml67795rPST5g-10PjhntA&var=420383549431 I also found bamboo ones: (natural color, whitewash is kind of cool too?): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bamboo-Roman-Shade-Five-Colors-Free-Shipping/121456792919?hash=item1c47639557%3Am%3AmVPDoH35s1-lJ4XHov0nYpw%3Asc%3AUPSGround%2180602%21US%21-1&var=420397536102 As far as adding color to the room... am I safe to go with pretty much anything as long as I'm consistent throughout the room? E.g. pillows for couch, throw blanket, artwork on walls, etc.?...See MoreAdvice Needed: Is it worth opening up stair half/pony wall?
Comments (29)As for furniture placement, we aren’t tied to the sofa being there Not making any assumptions here, but you may want to make sure that if you do open it up, you don't really need to put anything here at all. I live in an area of old row houses with the steps down one side of the living room, and many people either have a big sofa or the TV backed up against the stair railing--and the back of the TV is even worse than the sofa. Just because you can and it may make things look more open, think hard about what the implications are of doing so with furniture arrangement and how that looks. To go back to the small houses here, lots of people take out the small entryway and other walls only to realize that once all the walls are gone there is no place to put anything. You can back a chair right up to the vestibule wall that has the front door 6" away from that chair on the other side of a wall, but take the wall down and nobody is going to back a chair up to the front door like that. You can do whatever you want, just make sure that you are really going to get what you want out of that $9000 spent....See Morecnmng30
