Living room help! How can I brighten up this space??
Comments (2)It's a nice room and you've done a pretty good job. A few tweaks though,,,,exchange the short plant for a taller plant, in that corner. If you can't do a taller one, then hang the one you have from the ceiling or put it on a taller, mini table. put the plant on something like this. Target..Project 62 That sectional, (which really is too big for this room) in front of that door, really closes off the room (visually and literally). if you could, at some point, you could use separate pieces, that would be great. going w/a round, open style coffee table will soften some of those square edgesTarget. a single sofa against the long wall, some colored pillows, artwork, the coffee table/bench (using one like this that's 'open' looking, gives the illusion of more space) the blue velvet chair for some accent colors,,,,this is what you need in your space. for instance, imagine if you removed that smaller end of the sofa and had something like this against that wall or this one. BTW, these colors, below, would look great in your room. Do you have any artwork? Framed pictures, tapestry, shelving,,,anything? here is a simple example that you could do. Target has cute accessories like little tables, pillows, wall decor, etc, that you could use. bring in some color w/the arrangement like they done here, for behind your sofa. the pics behind this sofa are hung a bit high, but should give you an idea of how to accessorize your room. this would also be a better table for you. It's mainly that sectional that is really making this room heavy. if you need window coverings, I keep it sleek w/some inset blinds of some sort....See MoreAdvice on livening up a drab living room?
Comments (32)Definitely choose end tables first, then lamps. Target's Project 62 and Opalhouse collections have lots of great, reasonably priced options for both, as you can see! The pale blue, cream, and rusty red would be great colors to work with to brighten things up. Don't forget a lumbar pillow for your chair as well! If you look back at your first posting, you can see how nice the camel color pouf works with the furniture and rug. It brings warmth into the space. I think if you add some wood in a coffee table to the space, it will do the same thing. Maybe something like this, which also adds a bit of texture. A floor lamp added to the end of the sofa by the book case as suggested is also a good idea. You have the bones of a great room-it just needs a bit of finishing!...See MoreHow can I set up my living room
Comments (4)Posting a floor plan with measurements of the walls, windows, openings, and furniture would help. I agree with getting rid of the corner shelves. I would see about hanging the tv on a swing arm in that corner (knowing it will likely overlap the window). Move the couch to have its back to the dining area and then put a comfy chair and side table on the right side of the bay window facing into the room. Again a floor plan would be helpful!...See MoreI took my time, now I need to hurry up. Living room freak out…help!
Comments (41)Ask for the scotch guard treatment on all upholstered pieces. Regarding the ottoman -matching is more work than its worth instead go for an accent color and pull that color into the pillows or lap blankets, art , etc so it looks like part of the plan. Have fun with it You may even find accent chairs that go with the ottoman. Chairs & big men- the story of my life. The thing about men is the are very honest about their seating preferences -if it ain’t comfortable, they ain’t hanging around! I live in N. Alabama so forgive my southern. Look for chairs that are rated for “300 lb capacity”. They will hold up better, last longer and will be more comfortable for everyone and hopefully be really comfortable for you and baby. Regarding baby- get yourself a good upholstered recliner - even if you never thought the words Lazboy would be in your vocabulary or in your house, i slept many a night with a sick baby on my chest and the recline was my and my husbands saving grace....See MoreKim
