Considering Maddox Sofa from Restoration Hardware-Quality Advice?

Hi everyone- I have read all the horrible reviews on here about quality of RH sofas, but I've done a lot of research and am wondering if maybe they have improved? I am in love with the Maddox sofa which I've looked up and down to find and nothing works for us due to comfort, dimensions, fabric choices, etc. It seems people are complaining about RH's sofa frames, being made in China, and fabrics (although most people aren't specific when they are complaining about them so I"m not sure exactly what the main problem is). I did A LOT of research and it turns out that the Maddox is handcrafted in USA, which it doesn't say on every sofa from there, and also taken from site:

Handcrafted with a double-doweled wood frame
Frame is reinforced with corner blocking and mortise-and-tenon joinery
Woven-web suspension

Seems like these are ideal (except woven web suspension) and if I got the foam instead of the down and the Perrenial fabric which is super durable, could this maybe be a decent option? Could this sofa just be newer and better constructed given all the complaints they have had? Advice Please!

Thank you! Yes I did see most of those discussions, but none were of the Maddox itself. I did call RH yesterday and was told that each different sofa line was made in different places and constructed differently, so I do think it partially depends on the actual line of sofa. I am considering Cococo as well, but I'm worried ordering something and not thinking it's comfortable.

I believe the grand scale English sofa IS Lee. You can find the basic model on the Lee website, but you can better see the possible variations in the catalog, which a local dealer ought to have. If you have a Crate and Barrel furniture showroom locally, they will also have a catalog. I love Lee and have had great experience with their furniture. I have the Cambridge sofa in vintage black. After 3 years it was saggy on one side and had lost quite a bit of leather on the seating area so I contacted them and they replaced it. The new one looks better but they went from a 98" sofa to an 8ft one but when measuring it, it actually measures smaller than 8 ft. I also have noticed that when someone gets off it, the other person can feel it, almost like it's not level or build strong enough, it goes up and down. Hard to explain but we're small people. I actually preferred the saggy, missing leather to the new version. If you can find anywhere else to get what you want in a sofa, do it. Restoration Hardware may look pretty but it's not well made unfortunately.

In today’s market place between online merchants and local furniture stores you can find almost anything you are searching for. There is a fine line to finding quality leather furniture at a price most can afford. RH gets tons of attention because of their large marketing budget and many retail locations but as you can see by this thread there are many other alternatives to their styles and leather color selection. 8-way hand tied, solid hardwood frame and premium leather are a must when searching for quality leather furniture. Furniture products made in America are much higher quality and you should expect them to last longer than the same looking products made off shore (China). As you can see in viewing this thread, there are so many other options to the same looking RH designs. Comfort and good quality are the bottom line at a price we can afford. Materials used, country of origin and your leather choice will dictate your price point. Before you buy leather furniture anywhere, take a few minutes and get educated about your purchase. Apologies for super long post but I have a lot of opinions here :) I also love the Maxwell but second the concerns about RH quality. If you decide to look at Casco Bay, conduct very detailed and careful reasearch. That company has a very suspicious posting history on Houzz and Gardenweb. Not saying you won't be happy but it felt off to me. I recently purchased a sofa from a company called Of Iron & Oak. Made in North Carolina (although sold by a shop in New Jersey) with a lifetime warranty on springs and frame. I do not expect it to be built like some of the higher end furniture makers but I am ok with that. The customer service was also very good. I do not yet have the sofa as I am waiting on the shipper (and fairly unhappy about the shipping time FYI). Sophie has made good recommendations (especially CR Laine from my limited experience) but be prepared to spend big bucks. I had a quote from one of the big name furniture makers for a 6 foot leather sofa at $12,000. Perhaps reasonable for some but too rich for me. I personally do not want a sofa that will last 50+ years. I want a 6 ft. leather sofa that will last a solid 15 years and I wanted to spend less than 5K. With regards to CR Laine, I recently scored a very nice CR Laine chair on a massive discount and I really love it. It is comfortable and built like a tank. I was also in Yosemite over the holidays. While at the Awahnee Hotel waiting for our dinner reservations, we took a seat on a very nice tight back English roll arm upholstered in leather. It was seriously the most comfortable couch I have ever sat on. I started flipping the seat cushions (drawing the stink eye from my fiancee) and sure enough, CR Laine.

Hello! I have purchased it in the down and luxe depth and it is a very comfortable sofa. I know it not pure down (only the seat back cushions are) but the foam is harder than you'd expect for sure. I wouldn't describe it as cozy, but instead I'd say it makes a great backup bed.

I had the Maddox for around 2 years before I got married and moved in with my wife. I thought the quality was solid. I had the 7' blue vintage velvet sofa with down-filled pillows. I work in NYC as an architect and think the architects who designed the Maddox (Marmol Radziner) are exceptional designers. (http://www.marmolradzinerfurniture.com/vienna-way-collection/vienna-way-sofa). The seat cushions were firm and @Kyle Qiao is right - it could double as a nice backup bed. We have the cloud sofa now and I'm not as big of a fan as it loses its shape quickly.

Really anxious to hear if anyone followed through with their purchase of the Maddox, that was on the fence before? And, if so, how has it held up? I've been so close to purchasing one but have concerns about it retaining it's shape so have held off. Would love any feedback!

Hi tammy! We did end up buying the maddox sectional in vintage velvet and luxe depth. My overall thoughts/opinions…. Pros: clean, modern design and durable velvet fabric

Cons: way overpriced, very firm seating which isnt ideal for lounging and tv binging lol. And there are areas where it sits a bit higher then slightly dips.

Would i buy again? Probably not… I feel like there are other brands that are just as nice but less expensive and more comfy.
