Front Porch: rail or no rail?
Comments (23)Weiyan8--we're building just barely over the northern part of the county line, due north of R. We have 1.5 acres and for the first time I am realizing how much yard work I'm going to be doing! Yikes. So, right now in this heat, your .47 acres looks good :-) And you're right--that IS a good sized lot for your area. One house we were interested in there at your sub/div was in the Parade of Homes last year, but the houses were way too close around it. I've probably driven past your house, but because it's still under construction, not paid much attention to it. I drive through when I need ideas--first exterior colors, then front door stain, and now landscape ideas. I'm always driving through yours and H.C. sub/div for ideas because it's so close to our apt. You do have a nice commute, and my husband is going to miss it. (Aren't you glad that road got re-surfaced before you moved in? We had a bad 5-mile stretch--worse than GLTD if you can belive it--that JUST got re-done. Perfect timing). I'll post some pics later. Since our grading was done, the height of our porch is much better, but I don't have a pic of it lately. It looks like you have at least 1 more step than we do. If you have little ones, I'd probably put up the rails--maybe even in my situation, but I don't. It's exciting to get so close to move-in, isn't it? Good luck and hope you enjoy your new home. Comments (11)It looks really nice, did you add a steam generator ? i think it would be a nice idea ! i installed one when i renovated my new house last month, when i moved my new shower and bathroom was looking really old and ancient, the siding was made of wood and it was really rusty and broken, i also did some repairing inside like panting, flooring, etc. changing the old doors was also in my plan, and actually the best thing on it now is the shower after i bought a generator for steam shower which makes really good steam. I think it would be really nice in your bathtub....See MoreHelp with stairwell hand rail design - we're stuck!
Comments (2)You only need a handrail on the knee wall side. If you try to add a tailing on the other side it will look out of place, unless you have little kids and you worry about them climb or walk the ledge, you can put something to prevent that from happening, but it would still be easier to teach them not to go up there....See MoreChair rail ends mid-wall. Want to paint white below chair rail. HELP!!
Comments (25)IMHO, this does not look good at all. I would not except this solution. It looks like you just slapped up a piece of molding. It needs to be integrated more with the existing chair rail and base molding. If you move it over to start under the chair rail, it would be too close to the boxed out trim. If you want it to look like it is meant to be this way, he really needs to move the trim under the chair rail and shorten the width of the box so the spacing is the same as the distance between other boxes. Also, the trim piece should not stand proud of the base piece. You need someone that knows how to rework this to look professional....See More1hdmartin
