Best way to waterproof laundry room floor

I am adding a washer/dryer in an area of my new master closet on 2nd floor (see pic). All the plumbing here is new including a drain/waste line in the floor for backup in case washer overflows or leaks. The front half of the closet (where I am standing for photo) will be wood floor. Original plans were to tile the back half, slope towards drain, with some kind of saddle on transition from wood. Now, some of the guys on site are pushing me to using a drain pan instead of doing the pitched tile, saying it will be safer and better if something were to overflow because of the edges on the pan. Maybe I am missing something, but wouldn’t a tile floor pitched to the drain be superior to a plastic pan if something major were to happen? It’s not like it’s a cost thing because the contractor actually sides with the tile/drain idea. Thanks!
