How to best use space in laundry room? (pictures included)

We are considering moving our laundry out of the kitchen into a fairly small space nearer the bedrooms. It is just over 5 feet wide and 3 feet deep. We would be purchasing a new washer and dryer. I'm trying to figure out what would be easiest and provide the most storage and folding space while still be easily useable. I would like to put the washer and dryer side by side, perhaps with a counter over them and upper cabinets for storage. DW is 4'11" so I think it would be hard to reach over 29"+ deep appliances up to 54" off the floor standard height cabinets. Another option would be to stack the washer dryer and then put a 2' or so base cabinet with a counter and upper cabinet.

What do you guys think? Which do you like better and why? Those of you who have setups similar to either of the options...what aspects work well/poorly for you?

Are there considerations I haven't even thought of?

Is there another better way to do it?

Thanks for your help!
