laundry room upstairs?

Nearly all our laundry is generated and returns to our bedrooms on the second floor. So I would like to move our laundry room upstairs, exactly over it's existing location. To do so, I would break up a middle bedroom we don't use into the laundry and a small bath for a bedroom we do use. That will have the added advantage of giving each bedroom it's own bath. The old laundry room downstairs would be converted to a full bath with universal design elements, so it can be used as a guest bath or a post surgery or post stroke bath. The existing powder room downstairs would be converted to a pantry, since it is off the kitchen.

Back to the laundry room. I need a tray under the washer to catch water from a leak, I am told. Is there a type for the new low volume washers? Or should I assume someone may someday want a high volume washers and build for that? Any special installation guidance? Any other advice that will help us get this done right?
