Vigorous, Healthy, Large Climber
Comments (11)I have everblooming Cl. Cecile Brunner, and she was already starting to bloom, just a couple flowers though, a few weeks ago after taking a breather for the winter cold. Now getting LOTS of buds!. I've never sprayed any rose, so roses in my yard have to be able to do well without needing to be sprayed, and CCB always looks great, covered in leaves, and when she blooms--she can stop traffic with the blanket of pink! But I'm in an inland hot area, not as cool as your area, so I can't speak to the difference. This plant is around 40 years old and is MASSIVE!!! She has a trunk like a tree. She grows over everything in her path--goes up the tall juniper on her own, and cascades out of it, which is quite a beautiful sight. Will swallow any roses nearby if given a chance. Gets trimmed too, which she doesn't seem to mind, just grows back.;) Mine can handle once a week watering, even in the heat of the summer, but her roots are very well established and protected with mulch/groundcover and the shade that she provides them....See MoreNeed a healthy repeat-bloom climber that likes morning shade
Comments (18)Jen, keep in mind that even if the rose is getting the required number of sunshine hours, you will have more disease issues with a rose that is shaded all morning. I had another nice conversation with Mike Shoup from the Antique Rose Emporium yesterday about finding a suitable rose for a spot such as yours. He told me their weren't any roses that would do very well with morning shade. He felt they all need sunlight in the morning and actually tolerate the reverse better (a morning sun afternoon shade situation). Most cases the rose does best in sunshine for most of the day, if not all day. Paul Zimmerman from Ashdown has told me the same thing. My personal experience has born this out, but I was hoping Mike would tell me otherwise. In other words, I wanted to hear what I wanted to hear. I was truly hoping some kind of rose would thrive in that situation. This does not mean a rose won't grow in that situation. Many do. It just will never look as nice or be as healthy as one that gets sunshine on it first thing. Sandy...See MoreGood Repeat Blooming Climbers
Comments (19)Oooh more possibilities. I got back a sizeable tax refund and am trying to be responsible. My old abused Shih tzu from a puppy mill has to have an eye removed because of untreated glaucoma and that's going to be over a thousand! Her "good eye" cost us $250 the other because her daughter was playing with mom and poked her in it (she arrived here pregnant at 13! :( ) Hubby is still out of work...sigh. Gardening for me is therapy and I've bought quite a few roses this year. My depression pretty much killed a lot of them over the last couple of years...double sigh... I want to put at least one climber at the end of the deck so I can enjoy them close up. I'd love one that is VERY fragrant, gets at least 12' tall as our deck is raised and blooms all summer and is really bushy, color is not a concern as it will be all by its little self. I'm going to do some more research. Thank you so much for all the input. I just love coming here because of the willingness...no...eagerness to help out if asked. Comments (24)I don`t like black pots myself, but I think they need repotting because a tree that size is going to develop a decent root ball, and those are bound to be rootbound. I like heavy big pots for plumeria, keeps them from tipping over and gives them plenty of room for root growth. I do put most of mine in the ground and plan to put more in the ground next week. The PSA recommends short wide pots, which are really hard to find . I use miracle gro, yeah, I know all the arguements. It`s hot and humid and we are in a drought. I haul water from the bathtub upstairs to the garden and we are fixin` to hook the downstairs shower& the washer to drain into the garden. Tally HO!...See Moreneedmoremulch
