Where do you hang your cloth hand towels?
Comments (36)Thanks, Charliekin. My kitchen photos don't do justice to the backsplash. In real life, everyone just stops short and gapes! They're glass tiles from AlysEdwards, custom made for me in Italy. They're like stained glass, a milky white with grays and browns, no two pieces alike. I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful to go with my Carrara counters. I think you can appreciate them better in these next pix. I over-ordered and actually have an entire unused box of them that I keep meaning to list on CraigsList or someplace. There's just no where else in the house to use them....See MoreSpeaking of hand towels..where to hang the ring?
Comments (36)Shee, I'd put it as close to the sink and over the countertop as you can to eliminate drips everywhere. I love that toilet paper holder that you found though. whitdobe, that towel looks so nice there. I've never thought of using a larger towel on a wall ring. It's a great idea because I don't like seeing all the drips down the wall from reaching over to the towel from the sink and this would eliminate those. With a pedestal sink, the options are limited. I've looked at the "Healthy Shelf" that holds paper towels but it just seems too big....See Morewhy do most people use white ikea cabs?
Comments (20)tbo123 -- good point about the importance of being precise. 16 years ago we wanted white painted wood cabinets. We couldn't afford those at the time since we were on a strict budget. We chose IKEA white thermofoil cabinets instead. They served their purpose well for 15 years until we replaced them with the real white painted wood cabinets we had always wanted last year. The IKEA cabinet boxes held up so well that they could be repurposed as cabinets for a neighbor's basement when we renovated last year....See More"Most People Do the Best They Can"
Comments (19)Kay, I'm so glad you grew up in a better place! You've done us all a good turn by posting. "We had NO IDEA there was a problem - we were just too young, and had never known anything different." See, I think this is a big obstacle in understanding people's actions. We don't know what they had or what they didn't have, or what went on in the houses where they grew up. A co-worker was telling us that she went to a child's birthday party & was disgusted to see that the parents, who were on food stamps, were grilling T-bone steaks for the party. That's it. no potatoes, no salad, *no birthday cake*. meat. Another co-worker, a thoughtful woman, said, "You know, my parents grew up in the Depression & spent their working lives in much more affluent times. They ate steaks & roasts as often as possible. They equated meat with prosperity, & potatoes with being poor. Maybe those parents on food stamps never had had birthday parties as children, & they were sharing the best they had with their guests." Speaking of children's birthday parties... My mother grew up very poor. Not only did she never have a birthday party, she never had anything else, either. When my brothers & I were *pre-schoolers*, my father's sisters urged her to have birthday parties for us, so she said ok. & here came my aunts to the house with little presents, usually underwear... & my mother served cake & coffee & chatted with the aunts while my brothers & I were sent outside to play....See Morepalimpsest
