Toddler girl bedroom help - turning into a decor disaster! pics
Comments (23)I read the other responses, but this is what I would do... I would change out the blue color, maybe a limish green or a blue than is more similar to the blue in the bottom butterfly wings on the quilts or the background in one of your pictures. Obviously, not that bright, but more in that color tone. Painting the trim would make it more girlish, but I think you could make some other changes before making that decision. If you have it in your budget to buy fabric, I would cover your beds in a solid color fabric to make the quilts pop more. Try hobby lobby for some cute wall decor. Last year, I found an adorable glittery wood wall letters that said "kisses" in the valentines section. It goes perfectly in my 5 year olds room. I would hang something like that above each of their beds. The dresser needs something cute on it. A little grouping of bears, blocks, picture frames or just something more decorative. You could paint some butterflies on one wall with just a few small pints of sample paint. You can get these at Sherwin Williams for $5 each in their cans designed to help you decide on a color and you can mix them in any of their colors. It would add a lot of pizzazz to the room, and a butterfly shape is pretty simple shapes put together. I would then add some cute basic curtains, maybe in a solid color. Good Luck, I'm sure they already love it, we always overanalyze these rooms, and I am sure they love it just the same now as they would later....See MoreNot sure which way to turn, , H-E-L-P! Comments (4)For an insurance claim, you usually have up to 2 years to report any additional damage found as a cause of the initial claim, without paying an additional deductible, but your policy may be different. Get a reputable contractor (preferably 2 or 3), along with YOUR insurance adjuster, and the roofing company adjuster to take a look and determine the best course of action. I agree completely with the photos-of damage, during repair process, and after repairs are completed. Keep a copy for yourself-hold on to them for a minimum of 2 years, possibly longer, if you should decide to sell the house, you have proof that the repairs were done correctly and to code....See MoreWe're coming down to the wire---Can you take one last look?
Comments (11)thank-you! It was such a relief to come back and see replies and advice! Lavender Lass--Those windows have driven me #$%$^&!!! :) In the end it came to what common window sizes worked in our 8ft ceilings and would also give us the longest bank of windows without having a post in the middle of my view. I couldn't get 3 windows to work as well. Our roofline is low on this side of the house and the exterior soffits protrude so I have to be careful of balance. I'm quite at peace with the windows/sink location. The windows will be square. rhome-I'm glad you addressed the cupboards flanking the range. I'm not sure why I'm having such a hard time visualizing those. I have a bank of cupboards like you described (no corner angling). I know some people dislike them but I guess I'm tall enough that the reach doesn't bother me. Good idea on turning that pantry. I had planned on using it as a combo broom closet/bulky appliance (crockpot, electic griddle, etc.) cupboard My only concern is if it would work with the existing flush wood vent that is in the hardwood in that location. florantha--I'm waffling on plunk space---I know the evil of which you speak. We've gotten better as we have a very tall dog with a whippy tail and counter-height nose. processing leftovers-to the right of the cleanup sink, same with toast (the toaster will likely live to the left of the range) Making sandwiches will either happen there or on the island. florantha/bmore As far as the microwave I *think* I'm going to put it on the left of the island. I know myself well enough that I would rather take an extra few steps out of my work triangle then to have someone IN my work triangle. I tend to do a lot of re-heating from the kitchen table and from our coffee/tea station (the far-left from the cleanup sink, where the open shelves are) so it would certainly be convenient for that. Our girls are forever microwaving their hot wheat bags 'warm-ups'. bmore-I hope we can make the disposal work with a pull out garbage. The garbage would be pulling out on the corner, towards the windows and the base sink cabinets would open towards the fridge. Would that work? Is it rhome that has a similar setup? sandyponder--I knew I recognized your name, it kept coming up in archived posts about corner ranges when I was exploring that avenue! . I'm going to make that prepsink as large as the cabinet will allow although I haven't figured out schematics yet. Stay tuned for more questions on that when we start picking cabinets and sinks! I'm being booted off of the laptop as my DH just plated dinner. Thank you all so much for the time and thought put into your replies....See MoreRemodeling living room and kitchen taking down paneling
Comments (15)It would help to know what's underneath the paneling, or at least whether it's real wood paneling. If it's real wood and you just don't care for the color, I think painting it would be a better option than tearing it down. All the houses in my childhood neighborhood, built in the 1940s, started out with large fir wall panels that were about 6' wide and went floor to ceiling in every room. By the 70s (when I was growing up), most people had wall papered, or at least painted, most of their walls. Other than the seams every 6' or so, the painted panels looked like drywall as the grain wasn't prominent. When my best friend's family moved in, they nailed cheap laminate style paneling (in various shades of pickled oak) on top of the actual wood paneling!!! I remember my parents being horrified, though as a little kid I didn't understand their perspective. Now I understand....See MoreColleen Rogers
