I like the beds covered. They're only toddlers once (and I don't have girls LOL) so I say frill it up! I would paint the trim and closet doors white, but I personally like white trim in a room. I wouldn't paint the horse or wagon though. They're beautiful!

Your wood is gorgeous, I wouldn't paint any of it. I think the rocking horse & wagon would lose a lot of character painted white too.

From the one part you've done so far, I think it's cute, and doesn't look like too much to me. It's more of a pink look than the pink and green of the quilts. Or you could make big pillow shams that cover the headboard part, or even a mosquito netting type canopy that covered the headboard.

I would paint the trim white, and then maybe the closet doors white. I would not paint the wagon or horse.

The bedding is very cute. In the pic, the beds look cute--both covered and uncovered.

I would get some art work for above the beds. I have the foam number tiles arranged on my daughter's wall. Cute and inexpensive. Or maybe some type of a decal--there are all sorts of sayings or trees or flowers,ect. I have a cute one in my other daughters room.

The wood dresser will probably look great. My youngest daughter's room is esppresso furniture with green paint on the walls, white trim, and pink accents. It looks very cute.

I think the bedding is cute and I don't think it's overwhelming the room. There is a bit of a mish mash going on with the side cabinet and rocking horse. I'm normally a do-not-paint-the wood person but I think unless they are antiques, I would paint them. I wouldn't paint the closet or trim at this point.

I think you are on "over drive"! Funny how we get obsessed over things. I remember having a quilt made to match the crib bedding because I thought my older daughter would be upset to see her sister with her baby quilt. Looking back, I don't think she would have cared, any new bedding would have been fine. IMHO the room looks cute. I wouldn't do too much now as they will be in regular beds soon.

I think I would paint out the small cabinet that the lamp is on, but that you can get away with leaving the closet, trim & baseboards unpainted.

I really like what you did with the bumpers - maybe just figure out a way to secure them so they won't end up on the floor every day...or at least that's what would happen at my house! ;-) Hanging curtain panels and some more art will fill things in.

Are you planning to add other furniture to the room besides the wood dresser? Just make sure to tether larger furniture the walls for safety for the little ones.

Can you try the beds under the window with a table between them?

Thanks SO much for all the feedback. I think what I'm going to do.. going with some of the suggestions here.. is paint the trim and closet white and leave the rocking horse, wagon(yes, they are antique), and cabinet unpainted and clean up the dresser in the pole barn like I planned. Then I'll sew up the other three side/skirt pieces and put them on. I'll leave the foot and head board the way they are and make a large pillow/sham for each bed. Btw, the skirts are secured really good! I tacked the end of the fabric to the rail where it screws onto the headboard.. so the tacks are holding the fabric snug and there is no way for them to even get to the tacks unless the rails are removed! I then sewed ties all down the sides to tie onto the frame. I was totally thinking about that when I made them, lol. My girls will probably still figure a way to tear them up though! *rolls eyes*

And yes.. I will move the beds under the window. I am still on the look out for a small table or night stand to go between them.

If that doesn't look right I'll try something else.. I'm determined!

Well I decided not to read other comments so I wouldn't be influenced by what they said.
First off I think the stained wood pieces look fine. If you want to frill them up a bit make cushions for inside the wagon and as a saddle for the horse.
I think the way you are covering the sides of the beds is adorable.

I agree with your plan, but would paint the trim first and see if that is enough before you paint the closet doors. You may feel differently once you get things more finished.

Looking at your other daughter's room, I see the trim is painted there. I think I'd paint the trim and doors in this room too. Might make the white plastic a little less prominent. If you aren't happy with the beds/covering you are doing, what about painting the beds? They have that Krylon plastic paint that refreshes/changes plastic furniture; you might have fun finding a color to coordinate with the bedding/walls, or if you just refresh the white, you might be happy with that. I'd paint and decorate the little chest, too, but not the rocking horse.

What bothers me most is the wall colors. I think it might be easier to get a cohesive look if the walls were all painted the same, and I'd go with the green.

I would paint the trim, but not neccessarily the doors. I wouldn't paint the wagon or rocking horse, but would paint that little chest.

Your bedding is very cute, and that's pretty clever making those covers out of the bumpers! It's not a disaster, it just needs a little tweeking!

I would leave the trim alone and I certainly would not paint the toys. You might need to rearrange the room - maybe Les917 will stop by. I love your idea of slip covering the beds.

Two things would make a huge difference - window covering and wall art. I would go all out with the window. Maybe an awning valance and then a coordinating fabric colored roller shade.

I read the other responses, but this is what I would do...
I would change out the blue color, maybe a limish green or a blue than is more similar to the blue in the bottom butterfly wings on the quilts or the background in one of your pictures. Obviously, not that bright, but more in that color tone.
Painting the trim would make it more girlish, but I think you could make some other changes before making that decision.
If you have it in your budget to buy fabric, I would cover your beds in a solid color fabric to make the quilts pop more.
Try hobby lobby for some cute wall decor. Last year, I found an adorable glittery wood wall letters that said "kisses" in the valentines section. It goes perfectly in my 5 year olds room. I would hang something like that above each of their beds.
The dresser needs something cute on it. A little grouping of bears, blocks, picture frames or just something more decorative.
You could paint some butterflies on one wall with just a few small pints of sample paint. You can get these at Sherwin Williams for $5 each in their cans designed to help you decide on a color and you can mix them in any of their colors. It would add a lot of pizzazz to the room, and a butterfly shape is pretty simple shapes put together. I would then add some cute basic curtains, maybe in a solid color.
Good Luck, I'm sure they already love it, we always overanalyze these rooms, and I am sure they love it just the same now as they would later.

I agree with Franksmom about the wall color. I would take the bedding to the paint store and have them match up the light lime color in the bedding and at least repaint the sage green looking walls, so that it looks more like a kids room. And I also agree with a solid pink color for covering the sides of the bed, pillow sham, and you could make curtains from the same fabric. Accessorize and you are going to have a very cute little girls' room. I love the bedding!! It is sooo cute! But I agree it needs a solid fabric accent to pop! Ohhh..Yeah, just do what lazygardens said and get some plastic spray paint for the beds! They are cute, you just need a brighter solid color next to the quilts for them to pop.

I don't know how the rest of the trim in your house is but I prefer continuity... and white trim. The beds are cute and I didn't even realize you could paint them! That might be a great option. But I would also paint the walls. The bedding is cute too!

I agree with the other poster that said to paint the room one color. I think the walls being 2 colors, just does not give the room a cohesive look. Personally, I like the pink better, it is more bright and cheery for little girls. I don't care for the shade of green. I also think once the trim and doors are painted white, it will brighten up the space. I don't think the toddler beds look bad at all, remember they are not in them for long anyway, but I agree their placement may be better suited for under the window. Once the beds are placed under the window, remember to put window guards on your window, and if your shades have cords make sure the cords are not accessible to the girls. Rather than just a little table, may I suggest a small bookshelf between the beds to house some bedtime stories for the girls?

Ditto what polly said. I agree that the beds look fine as is and before you know it, you'll be swapping them out for twin beds-at which point you can resell what you have now on Craigslist. White is very versatile and most important, they look very safe for your girls. I really admire your energy for tackling this project with what sounds like several young children to care for. They are very lucky little girls.

If you are looking for some inspiration, do a search on zipdee--she decorated a darling room for her 3 daughters; while a different color scheme, it should have plenty of ideas for now and in the years to come.

Thanks everyone. :) I haven't made any big changes yet.. moved the beds under the window and that's it. I don't know what I'm going to try first. The painting just sounds, ugh! I've been painting for two months and I still have my kitchen, foyer and two bathrooms left to paint! So RE-painting a room I thought I was done with sounds daunting atm. I will if I have to thoguh.. that is, if I'm not sastisfied with the girls room after other changes. I'll be back with pics.. eventually! :)

From my own experience-don't paint the wood doors or trim unless you can do it correctly or it will chip when a toy or something hits it or if you hit it with the vacuum. It must be sanded either with paper or liquid sandpaper or it will chip and be a mess. Better to just leave it.
Get a window covering-maybe a color coordinating roman shade or valance and some art. I would move the beds to under the window or along a longer wall in the room(?) and separate the beds with a small table. Those look like really small beds (too cute!) so I would not go too all out with expensive bedding because you will be replacing them soon. They do grow so fast!
