Vinyl tiles would work. It would be best to get as much of the sheet vinyl backing off the concrete and then install your tiles with a flooring epoxy adhesive. However, note that working with epoxy flooring adhesive can be messy...and you need to roll the flooring several times as it cures. Even professional vinyl tile installers dislike working with epoxies, but sometimes it is what is called for. If you don't expect much standing water in the laundry, then whatever the tile manufacturer recommends as an adhesive probably would be OK.

they have vinyl or whatever it is! That is soft and pliable. It's really pretty. We are going to use it for the church sacristy. Some of the choices look like slate. I saw it at either Lowe's or Home Depot. It would do well on an uneven floor. Wish I could come over and help you fix up your laundry space : ))) I remember those days when I lived on the 3rd floor and did laundry in a basement with no windows. Having a laundry room off the kitchen is my favorite thing about our house. Wishing you a pretty laundry room soon!

Hmmm, you have a VERY realistic idea and I like that it would maintain the big windows at back of living room (whether 1 story or 2!)... and shuffling up the kitchen would still have the breakfast bar, without the dining room blocking the living room view from the kitchen.... and make more room for the walkthrough pantry in the middle. BY GEORGE I THINK YOU'RE ONTO SOMETHING!!!! You must be in residential construction bc you REALLY seem to understand how to interpret making changes from a base plan to meet the clients needs. We are a 3 car household (My corvette, his truck, and my everyday car). However, as I work from home, my vehicle *could* potentially stay outside. We DO plan to build a secondary garage/shop for my construction-hubby once we appraise the build and reap the additional funds (Did I mention he's been in residential construction for 10+ years and we're GC'ing the project ourselves??? Together we've built my parents house, my twin's and my younger sisters).

If you mean configuring the laundry and powder room into the utility room space, then a remodeling contractor should be able to help you with placement/code or maybe other ideas. I think, in an ideal world, we could all have all the space we need for all the elements in a house we want. But I'd rather have a powder/laundry combo, if I've determined that I need another 1/2 bath, rather than make do with one less bath than my family needs because some people object to having a W/D in proximity to a toilet, or whatever it is they object to. If you can squeeze enough space, I like the kinds of doors that pull out and tuck into the sides of the WD to hide it if you feel the need. I had both of these pics saved when I was trying to figure out how to move my w/d from a too small for today's large W/D units laundry room to my main floor bath. The first one is a bit hard to see but the doors slide/tuck in beside the machines.
