Remodeling master bathroom
Comments (3)I agree with the posters above. You don't want to take from the bedroom. And I don't think you'd want to take from the closet either. I have just enlarged my bathroom from a 5x8 to a 10x8 and I find that large enough. I have a 3x5'alcove shower, a 5' vanity, toilet, and a nook for the stacked washer/dryer that I love having on the main floor! The room is accessible. I did have to take away from one of the bedrooms to make this bathroom work. But the bedroom can still function as a bedroom, just a very small one. I hated the bathroom before, now I think I will love it when we are all done....See MoreRemodeling master bath - where to start?

Comments (19)We have dogs..., so having wood floors seem more hygienic/easier to care for than carpet. What kind, how many, how old and how big? How is the current wood floor standing up to dog traffic? our realtor recommended that we don’t put vinyl against hardwood...We’ll probably be here another 5-7 years Your realtor gave you good advice...IF you were planning to sell soon. What you need to factor in is how the floor will look & what condition it will be in 5-7 years down the road. Other factors: slab or raised foundation?, climate (snow, rain), even soil. I'm mentioning soil because I have very sandy soil and a dog who digs... HVAC with good 24/ 7/ 365 humidity control. Dehumidifying in the spring, summer, fall, adding humidity during the heating season. Don't put down a trendy floor, i.e, none of the gray-washed stuff that, I can 99.9999% guarantee will be loathed 7 years down the road. With dog & kid traffic, you should look at a wood floor that can be refinished. (Not low end engineered wood with a thin veneer layer.) What is the current hardwood in the house and can it be matched? How is that floor holding up to dog traffic...and how long has that floor been under dog traffic? Or address the subfloor requirements (which may be considerable given that you have carpet) and go with an SPC vinyl plank floor (there are stone look vinyls) for easy livability and consider it disposable... Yeh, as you already know, lots of things to consider. Not an easy decision to make....See MoreLayout for remodeling master bathroom
Comments (19)Thank you everyone for your feedback. These are really helpful! I've edited OP under last picture to include the approximate dimensions of the closet (and WH) plus total room. Sharon - you got it in the redo, that looks exactly right. I think the furniture piece would have to be on the north wall though (oriented like the vanity). The wall from corner to closet door frame is ~ 29 inches and the vanity is 36 inches. So it would be better to orient the other way? The 3D rendition is very cool. Suzanne - You're right about the baseboard in the bedroom. But I loved the idea, it hadn't even occurred to me to think about it like that. The door into the bedroom is right where the other closet idea would open into, although it could work as bedroom door opens to left. The bedroom has 2 closets on each side of bed (~45X25 in), but it would be good to have some closet type space (or furniture option) in bathroom, at the very least for linens and bath supplies. And you're right about the water heater too (we've replaced it, so had to deal with access). Need to percolate on these! Decoenthusiaste - The family bathroom we redid last winter was all in dark aqua porcelain! At least the shower/bath was full size but what a dark space it was. Can't wait to transform this space either. In regards to having the shower on the left (same as water heater) and double vanity on right, it seems like that will make the vanity/s the focal point (??). How important is that? Do people think a double vanity (vs a large single) is a big deal (from a selling point of view)? We have a family bath (on the other side/east) of wall of this bath. It's the long narrow style, but does have a long double vanity. There's just the 2 of us here now, but the house does have the 4 bedrooms....See MoreUser
