Hate the new paint in the family room, help!
Comments (5)Thanks for the advice for where to post - I figured the "paint" forum was the most relevant and I didn't want to get in "trouble" for posting in the wrong spot! I asked him to bring new samples and he's re-taping some of the trim now. I was upset about it every time I walked by the room so I figured it's better to repaint now when the prep is basically all done than to wait and have to redo all of that....See MoreHelp with new furniture & placement for living room and family
Comments (10)Well we have bought the craftsman and there are lots we like about it but i mainly want to create a foyer so it doesn’t walk straight in to living room. it would only let me load 3 images. The wall to take down or half with some craftsman type pillars is to the right of the front door or left from the fireplace right by the front door on first image....See MoreHelp! 20yo Living Room needs overhaul w/ new furniture / rug
Comments (17)Thanks Beverly. My calculus teacher used to say that "you can't tell the riders from the horses without pictures" - in this case scaled drawings. I don't have the room layout drawn to scale, so here's a couple of pictures that may help. Looking into room from behind columns. Room is approximately 21' x 17' (window wall to columns) Tape indicates about where a 12 x 15 rug would land - about 2-1/2' from wall Opposite diagonal corner with tape showing where the 12x15 would end up. It's about 28" from column. While this room is slightly larger (and elegant!), and doesn't need the pathway for the Master BR, the relative positions of the furniture is my goal. Note the sofa table and chair behind the sofa, but not on the rug - I would like to have a table and chair and don't care if they're on the rug or not. My preference is to have all the furniture on the rug. Is that enough info to help determine an appropriate size? I can try to draw out a room layout with walls and dimensions, just ran out of day today....See MoreNeed help…bought all new furniture and I hate it, feels all too white
Comments (11)I'm sorry you are unhappy. It's so frustrating putting in the time and money to make changes and end up with something that you dislike. That style of chair is really easy to reupholster, you just need a staple gun. Sometimes getting the old upholstery off is the hardest part. Aesthetically, I think you'd get the biggest impact from changing out the coffee table. You could look at Craigslist or thrift stores if you don't have the budget for more big purchases. It sounds like something in a dark wood would break up the same-same that is causing you grief. As someone noted, the dining table looks like it might have been intended as a kitchen island (I know my legs would not fit under the table on drawer side with the limited clearance there). If you have issues with functionality, that's the other item I would be looking for. To me it looks fine, and if the only issue is appearance I think maybe that can be addressed by introducing interest and contrast with wall art on the blank wall. But maybe you dislike its looks more than I do....See MoreS G
