Comments (10)I am tired. Worked to hard the last couple of days.... Today, I spakeled a couple more holes I found, while emptying out the bathroom for painting. Then, after breakfast I started by painting the ceiling. Cutting in the edges, then rolled the ceiling. Washed the roller and brush, and started cutting in the walls, then rolled them. ARGH! Needed a second coat, cutting in as well as rolling.... and double argh, rolled a third time before the paint looked good. Just prior to getting that last coat of painting done, I get a call, my bike is ready. It was in the shop, for a tune up, since it didn't shift right. So, cleaned everything up again, and then headed out to get my bike. Now, I am tired... but I guess, since it is supposed to rain tonight I better get out and mow. Comments (12)Let's see ... ... got up yesterday near noon, spent afternoon preparing and seeding garden, including dropping water into trenches prior to seeding. Planting seeds to set up a new asparagus bed. After dark, made supper, checked some emails. Felt a bit of a tickle on the hand - tick. Did for him, about the ninth one, so far, and three have nicked me ... so far with no untoward results. Quite a bit of paper work dealing with a new project that I'm setting up, offshoot of an earlier one. Spent some time reading a book, "Running on Empty" by a former U.S. Sec'y. of Commerce (under Nixon), written in 2004. More activity on computer, including several postings here, talking to you folks. Figured that I should go to bed, to sleep when sun does, not using lights during few hours of darkness ... but postponed it. Checked some end-of-week stock prices. Dealt with some emails. Did some posting on THS, including KT ... and a fair major one on "Saving". Some rain during the night. Still busy by daylight. After daylight, brought stuff in from car, including water from city taps for drinking and cooking. Plus some bulk candy, some of which I've enjoyed through today. Some breakfast. Discussion with landord about where he wants to put his stuff in the garden, which is all staked ... and that to accomodate his tiller, that cuts over 40" wide. Fed, watered cats. Checked garden ... some peas coming up, and some corn just showing. Heavy rain for a short period during the morning. Some more planning about what to do in garden ... had bought strawberry seeds, but decided that I wanted them in part of garden that's already planted. Discussed with landlord whether to let them lie till next year. But may decide to plant them along with the things that are planted where I want them to be ... they can grow together: doubt that they'll fight. After investment discussion group on Wed. night, one guy left his jacket, I tried to catch him, still have the jacket, tried to find phone No., will have to send email. Friend asked me to buy him cigs., I went down the road and got some ... likely see him tomorrow ... he's just about out ...and you know how antsy addicts get when they don't get their fix! Oh, yes - while looking in desk ... found sticker certifying my vehicle licence was renewed (it was cold and messy on the day that I got it). Driver testers would ride with me only after I showed them sticker in registration certificate. Also, police pulled son and me over the other night, no ticket: accepted the sticker in the registration certif. But female accompanying him was distressed by the empty beer cans in the car ... wanted assurance that we hadn't been drinking. I should have suggested that she smell them, for there was no odour ... and mud on some of them: from the roadside. Just installed the sticker: that should keep the authorities happy for a while. Now I need to add the rest of the paper to the stack of receipts ... $74.00. The kitten that didn't show till it was half grown, and has been rather skittish till a while ago, but when it got some petting decided that it liked it, spent some time with me. Her mother will follow me to the garden or part way to get the mail ... but if I get my hand within about 9" of her, will swat me ... and she means business: draws blood. But expects me to feed her. Sort of like a teen ager, I guess. It's fully dark: 9:35. I guess I'll get a snack ... and go to bed. Just about out of bread,will have to put another loaf to bake. I usually make the dry mixings for about 5 at a time (as I store the flour at the other end of the house, to avoid the moths ... so far successfully) and I'd used the last container last time. So brought out the flour ... and found that I had one mix left, so I've put it to bake. When the measuring cup dries, I'll make up 5 mixes, then put the flour away again. I've been checking store specials next week, as will be in town tomorrow and probably not otherwise till Thurs or so. About all that interests me is good price on choc. milk. As I said a week or so ago ... since I'm on dial-up internet connection, I've been trying to figure ways to break household and kitchen chores into 15-, 30- and 45-second segments, in order to keep me from chewing fingernails while waiting for downloads. I hope that your weekend is meeting all of your expectations ... so far ... and continues to do so. It is Saturday ... isn't it? Comments (13)I had quite a few radishes and beans, plus multitudes of squash and tomatoes come up volunteer in my garden from last year ... when Conrad the landlord tilled last week, I begged him to skip some of the tomatoes, lest I not have enough. He said that there were plenty. I transplanted quite a few into rows on the night before last, just before dark, and watered them. Didn't go out early yesterday to water them, did some cultivating and weeding in the other garden, some of them were looking rather peaked when I arrived a while before lunch on that hot day. Watered them, stuck some boxes over a few to shade them and they perked up some. As I weeded the cantaloupe, put some lamb's quarters - a full tray that in which tomatoes come to the stores - and was sad that there appear to be no cantaloupe sprouted in half of the row. Friend from the investment group called to say to be at his place at five to six to go to the meeting, and he'd like some straw for his garden, so I took him two main bales and a couple of small ones ... he was surprised that I could get all four into my little car (and without one in the front seat) and I had some other things, plus the tray of greens to share ... I said that when one packs for overseas, the rules deal with not just weight, but volume, as well. We picked up the gal who lives near him on the way to the meeting, and did some shopping along the way - I got some cashews and some choc. chips to pass around, which I did ... but forgot the greens, sitting in the corner, until after the break-up and many had left. One guy took some at the after-meeting in the coffee shop. I was to go out to lunch today, had asked a friend who was busy, and called another a couple of times, and had thought to ask Lori en route last night whether she'd like to go ... but forgot that, too. This morning I did some hoeing, watered the tomatoes - I think that all but possibly a couple will survive, and cleaned the car (straw in a car is messy), as I planned to visit Lori's house to see whether she might be interested to share lunch. There's a group at the church that I attended as a child that used to be called the "Senior Men's Coffee Hour" that meets Thursdays through fall, winter and spring. Then they changed their name to "ROMEO"s - Retired Old Men Eating Out, and my suggestion that, as we are mainly drinking, it should be called "ROMDO" - Retired Old Men Drinking Out went over like a ton of lead bricks. Could it be the old Methodist heritage, which that congregation had been prior to the formation of The United Church of Canada in 1925, four years before my birth? Surely not. Anyway, at their final meeting in the spring, they all invite their wives out for lunch at a nearby restaurant, and today noon was the day. Last night when we arrived at Lori's door, I ran to ring her bell, then ran back to the car to move some of my stuff from the front to the back seat ... and she teased me about being like a kid that rings one's bell and runs away. This morning, when I rang Lori's bell ... no answer. Guess she was away (or working - she works part-time ... and makes money on the stock market). The lunch was lovely - I had pickerel - and some teased me about the lack of a companion. So - now I'm on the internet, talking to you guys ... and waiting for my ten-minute warning dialogue box to show up ... it did, while I'd been typing this, and this is the second time of typing it. Comments (22)Today DH and I went out for breakfast before he went to work on afternoon shift. I made cheesy potatoes and then went to DD's for a second Thanksgiving dinner, as they postponed it there due to her FIL and niece being ill. Had a nice late afternoon and evening, then came home and got the Christmas card exchange list emailed out. So if you signed up this year, check your email! Oh, and I washed the living room and dining room windows inside and out, except for the big center window. I am NOT getting on a ladder outside in late November in Ohio! I had not planned on washing windows today, but since I kept knocking down the sheers in the front window last night, and the darned spiders keep making houses in the one window, I said to heck with the sheers and left them lay on the floor last night and just closed the drapes. The plan was to clean out the spider mess in that window, and just wash the insides, but the spiders and the window had to change my mind. I had to take the screens out (DH had to do it before he left for work, cause I couldn't get them loose) so I could tip the windows in to wash, because the spider nest went up with the window so I couldn't get to it. I need to do dishes, but I think they are going to wait. Tomorrow I have to go get tires put on my Expedition, and get it aligned....See More
