How many people do they entertain? ~ once a month: total 10 adults and a few kids (including my parents). Adults usually eat dinner at the dining table and a folding table is set up in the living room area for kids (plus maybe one or two adults at the kids table to feed them) 3~5 a month: total 4 ~ 6 adults (including my parents) When they entertain is it at the table or watching tv/movies or both? Usually with 4 ~ 6 adults, they sit at the dining table to drink coffee or eat dessert With 10+ people, men often sit at the sofa area and women sit at the dining table to chat. TV is often left on, but mostly for the kids. Do they have any issues with mobility or difficulty getting up from deep or low seating? Nope, no mobility issues. But generally they don't like deep sofas, just because we're not very tall (mom is 5'3"), and deep sofas are less comfortable at our height. Do they use both the dining table and the kitchen table? Mom uses the kitchen table for food prepping (because there's not enough counter space and the height is easier for some prep work) Only the dining table is used for dining, even when there's only two of them. Unless there's people visiting, the other half of the dining table is often cluttered with work stuff, especially now that they are working from home (papers, computer monitor, etc.) Is there a better use of space rather than having 2 eating spaces (you mention they use the dining table for work from home)? I think especially right now, it's difficult to reduce down to 1 table, because large chunk of the dining table is used for work so the large dining table is a necessity... and my mom probably doesn't want to do food prep work on the nice dining table.

My first advice is to extend the two feet - you won't be sorry. 12 x 12 to 14 x 14 is a great discussion square, but requires space to walk around them. . the room you have posted above is 21 x 22 (and huge sofas!) . . two sofas like this across your fireplace and window wall would be tight in a 15' space. A corner fireplace is even more difficult. With the added two feet, a linear fireplace on the side wall with a television outlet mount above would provide a way to do two sofas . . but they would not show off that great window wall. I would keep the wall as is . . fireplace as is, put the television on the wall opposite the kitchen so you can watch while washing up when all alone . . Then, the seating options open . . a big sofa with its back to the kitchen and a great pair of chairs at each end on the other side of the fireplace . . Armchairs by the fire, and a sectional with its back to a console table that you see as you enter your front door . . options abound . . but you won't get the two feet back. Elect for that and keep the fireplace as is . .

A sofa placed on the wall where you have it now is fine. Also the existing tv in the corner on the existing stand is fine. I just scrolled up and see you are planning to paint. Don’t do grey. The grey trend is over and grey walls are not necessary. I recommend that you try samples of BM Muslin and BM Swiss Coffee. Samplize.com I don’t have time to read through all the comments and just quickly skimmed through a few. From an Eastern Feng Shui perspective, main sofa with back to windows or floating in a room are less than desirable placements. Plus, your whole plan is to be able to take advantage of the ocean views, so backing a sofa up to the windows would be counterproductive. You have your sofa and tv placement right. You need less bulky seating pieces - that have better size/scale for the space - and are also more fashionable. You can have comfort and style as well. Look at apartment sized furniture. Don’t do a love seat. If the sofa is the right style and a good size and scale for the space, you should be able to do a full sized 2 or even a 3 seater sofa - and put it exactly on the wall where your sofa is currently. I recommend a sofa, not a reclining one - and an ottoman - the ottoman would be able to be used as a foot rest as well as a coffee table (with a tray). And I recommend bringing in one recliner/chair - a small scale/well-sized/streamlined reclining chair - and the chair can face the windows that are to the left of the tv, and the chair would also face the tv. You could also consider swivel recliners as a possibility, when you are looking for that chair. And it looks like you might already have a bench under the windows that are located across from the sofa. That is a very good idea. You can dress the bench as a window seat - change the cover, and/or add a bench cushion and a few throw pillows - either with the current bench or bring in another long bench if you need a new one, or alternatively you could use a chaise in that spot there. Other than the core furniture pieces I have mentioned above, you could keep some folding chairs on hand should you need extra seating for this room. And you mention that you have another room, a living room that has a good amount of seating. I recommend that you take these suggestions that I have offered you - and find a designer to help you pick the furnishings - either a designer/decorator in your area - or there are also lots of online/e-design options that you can explore.
