Need Furniture Placement Help and Decorating Help- Family Room
Comments (16)Center the rug with the fireplace. Take the bookcase out of the left corner of the room and put that in the space between the kitchen and FR, where the console table now sits. Move the sectional down toward the fireplace, (after centering the rug), add an end table to the outside of the chaise part of the sectional. Someone sitting there wonâÂÂt want to move to get a drink off the coffee table. Be sure there is a lamp there as well, to light that corner of the room. Move the armoire to angle in the corner where the sectional was sitting originally. Use it for storage, perhaps add shelving or even a pull-out shelf for a computer center which can be closed up and put away. The piece is very nice, and gives good height to balance the fireplace and high ceilings. For now, try the console on the wall to the right of the fireplace, and place the new flatscreen on that. Later you may prefer a more substanial cabinet, which can hide other components and store DVDs, etc. If you do that, then try the console table behind the part of the sectional that has its back to the kitchen. Add a comfy upholstered chair in the corner, a bit closer to the fireplace, where the armoire was, along with another small side table and lamp....See MoreI'm stumped! I need advice on furniture placement in my new apartment
Comments (6)Since it's an apartment and you just moved in, I'm guessing that you don't have anywhere to move this stuff to get it out of the way. How about a sketch of the room with the location of windows and doors shown on it. Then let us know the size of the furniture that you want to keep in the room. Do you want both sofas in the room, and able to watch TV from both of them? Is the room open to the dining room where the white table is? We need to know where to leave a traffic path, and where the doors lead to. If the TV location can't be changed, I don't think you have much choice other than the way you have the 2 sofas now. (Or is it a sofa, chair and love seat? Hard to tell in the picture.) Anything else in the room needs to be on the other side away from the TV. Just not sure what all that is....See MoreI am designing a kitchen I need help with the placement of lighting
Comments (1)Hi Landry, I think you need to get some help here. Hire a designer in your area for a lighting consultation. You need to light your isles, your lighting over your table is odd and you need to look at liner ft not sf. Also, 6" are out and 4" are more widely used now. Are you going to have under cabinet task lighting? PS: your table and chairs are blocking the walkway to the doors. Why not make a larger island and incorporate seating there? I see much opportunity here to make a better and more functional kitchen but you need professional help....See MoreNeed help with ceiling height and furniture placement.
Comments (0)This is a long post, and I greatly appreciate any assistance, so thank you in advance for reading this! I started out building a Craftsman-style home but had to change plans. Our new home will not be Craftsman in design but I want to give it Craftsman touches as much as possible using my existing furnishings and adding to them where necessary. I am trying to determine whether to go with a ceiling height of 9’ or 10’ and, to the extent I can in advance, how best to place furnishings and wall decor we currently own. What will play a part in determining ceiling height (in addition to window light, room size, etc.) will be what is going into the room in terms of existing furnishings and the “feeling” I want to try to create. That is why I am asking for help here. Problem: What ceiling height and furniture placement are best in this great room that is 18 ft wide x 12-1/2 ft deep? (Please see photos 2 and 3 below that are the model home unfurnished and then furnished.) It is not my style (which is Craftsman) but you can see the room size and window configuration. This room does have a 10’ foot ceiling, but I could make ours 9’. (However, given the open plan, my DR and kitchen ceilings would then also have to be 9’.) It is clearly not the cozy Craftsman look that I love, but I want to make it cozier to the extent possible. I struggle with how to place my existing furniture and will likely have to purchase more furniture and accessories to fill this room in. (Please see photo 1 below of my current Craftsman furnishings and placement, which were purchased for a much smaller living area.) Also, I don't know what size rug to get, but I’m sure that my current rug is too small at 5’7” x 7’11”. I will have a Craftsman style mantle and would like the furniture grouped around this, but the room is so wide that the couch and chairs would need to be pulled away from the walls a lot and ”floated” in the room. So many questions!!! — If I float the furniture to move it toward the mantle, what do I do with all the space behind the furniture? — Is there a better room arrangement that will still keep the mantle the focal point? — Should I keep the 10 ft ceilings and higher windows in the great room, kitchen, and DR or lower them to 9’ for a more Craftsman feel but lose some of the light? — What size rug is best?
