36' dual fuel range with double ovens?
Comments (11)We completed a kitchen remodel in April '09 and selected the 36' dual fuel Aga in vintage white with a cathedral window. We LOVE it! I will say that this range was a splurge - it was $5,000! However, both my husband and I feel it was so worth it. We did not want a kitchen dominated by stainless steel appliances. Without a doubt the Aga gave us a classic look - it's not vintage, per se, it's timeless and certainly is a show piece. EVERYONE who comes into the kitchen comments on the range. I did not want wall ovens - I didn't want to take up that much space for something we would only use occasionally. The 36' Aga is perfect for us. When we entertain, I have had bacon wrapped apricots in the broiler, chicken and pasta baking in the multi-function oven and side dishes/desserts baking in the tall ovens. I love not having to fire up a huge oven when I just need to bake a side dish for two - the tall oven is perfect for that! When my nieces/nephews visited, we spent a snowy afternoon baking cookies. The Aga kept up just fine! In regards to the size of the ovens: In the tall ovens along the right side of the range, we bake our side dishes or a pie. I have had no problems fitting my Pyrex dishes into these smaller ovens. We often use the tall oven for keeping breakfast items warm. Unlike other ranges, I can set it at 150 degrees and it's perfect for keeping bacon, biscuits, eggs warm. I can pull the warming tray out with my bare hands at this temperature. I also enjoy the plate warming rack that's at the bottom of this range. We have gotten rid of our toaster and use the broiler for browning toast - love it! In order to broil a steak, I have to turn the rack upside down as otherwise it is too shallow. If I want to broil several larger pieces of meat, I use the multi-function oven. Speaking of the larger, multi-function oven we have no problem fitting my 9 x 13' pan of pasta, beef tips, casseroles, etc. in this oven. We generally do not cook turkey on Thanksgiving, so that's not an issue for us. However, with the main oven measuring 16w x 14d x 12h (shelf on the lowest rack), I can't see how roasting a turkey would be a problem. It is true that when it came to my cookie sheets, I could not use my existing ones. I was sad to have to give my brother-in-law my Doughmaker cookie sheets - he was thrilled! However, the Doughmaker Biscuit Sheet (10' x 14') fits perfectly into the larger oven. With the Aga gas cooktop, I can FINALLY cook grits without having any burn at the bottom of the pot. The precise flame control is fabulous - perfect for cooking tricky grits! We considered the Aga 44' range but it was just too large! There was no way we needed to take up that much space - I wanted counter space! The 5-top burner is plenty big enough for cooking everything we need for a large get together. I'm not a foodie and I don't cook gourment - I specialize in just plain old good home cooking! I've added a link to a post on my blog that shows our Aga. Here is a link that might be useful: Our 36 Aga...See MoreDouble oven, wall oven, under-counter mount oven
Comments (6)I currently have an electric coil cook top, double wall ovens and the MW on the counter. My new kitchen will have a Bosch 500 series 36" gas cook top and a 30" Whirlpool regular double wall oven. The MW will go in a nook above a counter. I love having wall ovens so I don't have to bend over. When I help in a kitchen with a regular stove if feels awkward use the oven. Also, I've had both of my hips replaced and I cook enough that that type of thing matters. I went low middle of the road with my appliances and am reusing some. After reading here about the temperamental nature and need for uber exhaust with the high end ranges, I didn't feel for my needs it was worth the extra money. I'm putting my money into cabinets and good mechanical / plumbing....See MoreWall oven microwave combo OR range with oven + under cabinet microwave
Comments (15)We have an oven/microwave combo (KitchenAid). If I could redo my kitchen I might do that part differently. I did not know when I designed my kitchen last year that microwave drawers were a thing. If I had known I might have chosen that with a built in oven instead. I do not dislike our oven/microwave however I do have concerns about the microwave breaking. The fan was actually broken when we installed it, and we had to get it repaired. So if something happens to it, I know we will have to pull the entire unit out to get it fixed which is more of a pain than just fixing a microwave. The other issue I have with it is that microwave is a little higher than I would like. We installed the unit 1.5" higher than they recommend (so I could have a 15" drawer below) and since I'm only 5'3" the microwave is a little bit high for me. Even installing it at suggested height would still leave it higher than the ideal. A drawer would be a nicer height most likely. I definitely like having a separate gas rangetop and built in oven. There are many reasons I want them separate, so a range was never an option for me. But I probably won't combine the oven and microwave again if I did another kitchen....See MoreDouble oven versus range plus extra oven
Comments (6)If you are designing your kitchen, I highly recommend this book. He has some very good ideas that are a little different. You may be able to get a better price on bookfinder. I made one wall of countertops 6” deeper, put the microwave by the fridge because we mostly reheat and followed the way he lays out a kitchen. The Complete Guide to Kitchen Design With Cooking in Mind https://www.amazon.com/dp/0932767095/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_ECH9EbDEKGTBB I think if you are the cook you should have the edge on how the kitchen is laid out. In buying separate components, you can pick “best” for each thing rather than buying certain burners and getting the oven that comes with it. If you do get a range check the capacity. A 36” and many 30” ranges should hold a full commercial sheet or 2 half sheets. Many don’t though. Look at the rack sizes. My 36” Wolf range does not. Have you considered a rangetop vs a cooktop? I would definitely consider a CSO as above. It allows you to control humidity in your oven. I don’t have one because I need two big ovens but people seem to like them. It would be really great if you bake bread to allow steaming at the beginning. Much of this depends on how/what you cook, how many you cook for and if you entertain....See MoreRita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real
