OT: The Mockingbirds think Spring is here! The all night serenade

Lisa Adams

I’d forgotten about it until it began again Monday night, Tuesday morning at 12:15 AM actually. I had looked it up last spring, after becoming so curious. Each night(morning), between 12:00 midnight and 12:30 a male mockingbird begins his song. He’s in the trees and bushes within 10 feet of my bedroom window. He sings his heart out! There’s almost a desperation to his song, as it builds in intensity. His song isn’t annoying, but beautiful. I actually feel guilty when I need to close the window to shut out his song to get some sleep. I’m not sure how long he keeps it up, but he was still going strong when I closed my window at 2:30AM.

I believe mockingbirds are pretty common. They are bold protectors of their young, divebombing my cats should they come too close to the nest. Does anyone else have a bachelor mockingbird singing for a mate, at night? Lisa
