fingers are nothing or shell pink (no, I don't think I'm Queen Elizabeth) french manicure. Toes can be anything. Today, cantaloupe with orange glitter. One set everyone sees, one is private folks. But, and this is the reason I posted, I've worked with someone for more than a decade, and one day last month, I was fooling around and made my nails opalescent purple--which made this person say, have you ever worn polish before? I could tell he was surprised. I said NEVER! (grin)

I don’t do my toes anymore. My stomach gets in the way and I have to hold my breath to grab my feet. My feet are ugly anyway :-/

Don't you guys get mani-pedis?? Or if not having nails done, at least pedis? I would never bother doing my own toe nails - too much work and too awkward to manage without going through multiple contortions!! And that half hour-45 minutes spent in the massage chair and your feet in a bubbly hot water bath, then carefully massaged and attended to is the best inexpensive investment in self-care - mental and physical - there is!!

I have a "thing" about feet. I hate them. All of them. Well maybe not hate, great dislike? I don't want anyone's to touch me, or for anyone to touch mine. So nope. No pedicures.

All my nails are natural. But, the thought of a nice massage and bubbly hot water bath ... sounds real, real, good....!

Mostly of the time, just a clear nail strengthener. I like pearls and pale pinks, too.

Never ever wear polish. Went to a fancy spa with daughter as a b-day gift to me. Loved every second of it except the mani-pedi. Hate the look. My nails are strong naturally pink and squared filed and are great looking without the annoying polish.

I also don't polish my nails. My nails are very strong, and I chop them off with scissors about every 3 or 4 days to keep them just the length of my fingertips. They bug me if they grow out past my finger tips. Same for toe nails....cut them straight across, at the end of my toes. I mentioned this a few days ago...I have several bottles of nail polish that came with some donated pet food....although it is human polish, not specifically for pets. I painted the little finger of my left hand, and for several days...until it wore completely off, every time I glanced down at it, I thought my finger was bleeding....until I "snapped" that I had painted it. I kept thinking " I am losing my mind"!

Turquoise most of the time, both fingers and toes. I do them myself. They dont chip easily for me, and my hands are always in paint, or cleaner or paste, or flower gardens, or most anything, since I do not wear rubber gloves.

natural. I love the look of polished nail but polish on my fingers chip off within days. Even with using gloves to wash dishes. Toes will last months though...

No polish. I have naturally white nails, like a French manicure. I shape mine in the old fashioned 'oval', about 1/8" of white tips. I can still cut my own toenails -- but the time is coming! (It's mostly my eyesight.)

As an old lady, I'm having difficulty keeping my cuticles pushed back to where I can see the 'moons' at the base of the nail.

On a fixed income, I choose not to spend for mani or pedi. Instead I do it myself. I generally wear polish on my fingers, as my nails tend to break easily. Currently it's a clear polish with very (VERY) fine glitter in it. I don't polish toes in the winter, but as soon as the flip flops come out, the toes get a bright happy color.

My fingernails are natural except when I polish them with a very pale pink on occasion when going out or to a special event. I am a gardener also so like gardenergal said, the two don’t mix well. I don’t like my nails to stand out so stick to a very neutral color.

I do get a pedi every 3-4 weeks. It’s well worth it. For my toes, I go all over the place...pinks, coral, brown, red.

Right now they're natural. About 4x's a year I'll get a gel french manicure. They last about a month. After the 2nd time, I give my nails a break.

I'm a gardener, but I still polish my fingernails, a dark red in the winter, and a medium pinky mauve in the summer. I do wear gloves most of the time when gardening but do really nasty gardening jobs right before I get my nails done. I agree that a pedicure is the most relaxing thing I do for myself.

Toes are always a kind of tomato red. Fingers are either dark burgundy, or navy or OPI Ballet slippers in the summer to show off light tan better. I do my own. I am a gardener too, and even with gloves, it is hard to keep a manicure in gardening season. Have never had a Pedi. Creeps me out to have somebody touching me, and I worry about cleanliness of tools, foot bath. etc. ( yes I am weird)

I don't think that's weird. I sure don't a mind a foot or lower leg massage I receive at the nail salon or the head massage when I visit my hairdresser but I don't want anyone touching me anywhere else!! My sister, who swears by spa massages, thinks I am nuts. I did have a facial massage once and that wasn't too bad but I have never been in a hurry to repeat :-))

I have no concerns about cleanliness. The salon I frequent is spiffy clean and they bring out a packaged set of new clean tools for every client.

I've never had a professional manicure or pedicure. I rarely wear polish on my fingernails, but when I do, it's in the pale, frosty pink/peach/tan colors. Never paint my toenails.

I have nice nails, but when I break one, I cut all the rest to match, and for some reason, I don't think short nails look good with polish on them. For the last week I've had what kind of looks like a French manicure--I had an accident with some latex paint, and haven't bothered to scrape all the paint from under my nails.

I think the opposite. Short nails look great with most colors and you can even get away with navy or other darker hues without the nails looking "witchy".

For the next few weeks my fingernails are Easter egg blue. I have several different colors. Years ago I bought a UV machine to use for the gel/acrylic nail polish. I wouldn't use anything else. I don't have the time to wait for polish to dry only to last a few days. My polish stays nice for the minimum of 2 weeks usually 3 even when I garden.

^^ I get bored wearing the same color for more than a week. So no gel polish for me. :)

Chisue, I use my bath towel right after my shower to gently press my cuticles back. It works pretty well without the pain of an orange stick.

I rarely ever paint my fingernails, they are grubby today. I changed out the starter on hubby's truck because his thumb is still healing. He supervised and my hands were such a mess.

Dirt! LOL, I just came in from yard work. I don't do nail color, cept for my toes... I like them to look sharp when I am on my bike, in my sandals. ;)

Haven't used nail polish in years. I had some nice black nail polish when I dressed as Morticia some years back, for a Halloween party.

My toes are purple now, but I'm plan to use green polish on them and my fingernails for St. Patrick's Day.

My nails are fingernail-colored. No polish for me. Too much trouble and I have ugly, short and square shaped nails. I don't want to call any attention to them.

It's time to start getting pedis again. (I take the winter off. Nobody sees them then, anyway.) I can't bring myself to try the more unusual colors - no yellow, gold, green, blue, black, etc. Just can't do it. Guess I'm too old. Pinkish-brown is my favorite.

I've never taken note of the color of my nails. I merely pound them into lumber with a hammer and once driven home, only the top surface of the head shows and most of those will get painted. I see in the posts above that you all have been creative with color.

It's funny, I don't wear makeup; I don't blow dry, color or curl/style my hair on a daily/regular basis, but I always have my nails done.

I guess it's my one pampering thing I do. Right now I am wearing a dark, almost navy blue.

I love pedicures, and my toes are usually peach or coral. I do my own fingernails and at the moment they are butter yellow, yesterday they were robins egg blue. I have several pair of gardening gloves and use them.

My nails are in their birthday suits. When I was working, the texture of nail polish was unpleasant against the latex gloves we often wore. So, nail polish was for Halloween costumes for parties, and removed after. I think painted nails are attractive, and so are unpainted ones. I just opt for the latter. As for toes.. im usually the only one who sees them, and so I never bothered.

I use Pure Ice in Satin Ribbon, it's a very light translucent pink. (I don't polish my toenails until summer.)

I get pedicures all the time living in FL four months s year with varying shades of pink, red and coral. I keep my finger nails short and don’t bother with polish for all the reasons you’ve all mentioned. Maybe a couple times a year I’ll have them done for a special occasion

My right hand is severely messed up....scarred from a third degree burn that literally melted the nail on my ring finger on that hand, and crooked from a gunshot from a .38 Smith and Wesson. So that is the main reason I have never worn nail polish. I don't want to call attention to it. And most people never notice it. I agree with those who say they have never had a mani or a pedi. I know most people love them, but I am someone who doesn't really like people touching me, if I don't know them. And I always think, why should I pay someone to paint my nails (toenails) when I can do it myself. (I used to paint my toe nails but I no longer wear flip flops in public or sandals, even.) Once in a blue moon, I may paint my toe nails. Heck, I am doing good to shave my legs!

Right now I just have clear polish on my fingernails. Nothing on my toes....I can't bend to do my nails. I dislocated my hip trying to reach my toenails to cut them. Never again. Now hubby cuts them for me. I can't go get a pedi....being handicapped I can't get up in those big chairs and our salon doesn't have any portable units. For quite a few years I would get the acrylic put on my fingernails, but I finally just quit with that. I can polish my own fingernails and my color of choice is a deep wine color, but at times in my old age I've gone wild with blues, greens, purples, etc.

Mine are natural, but sometimes I apply accents (grease) to the undersides. I have never figured out how to remove engine grease from under my nails.

Polish eats nails. That is my experience. I think it came with age. In high school up until 31 when I had my first child I had long LONG usually dark nails. I spent much time each week keeping them lovely. Now if I polish them for an event--I will spend the next four months with peeling, cracking, shredding nails. I just cut mine back yesterday. If I don't' polish them they grow quite rapidly and are lovely, but long nails with no polish are not attractive, IMHO I have never had fake nails or gone to have someone else do them. THAT would be a nightmare of peeling/cracking....

My toes are always painted (currently periwinkle, but I will do just about any color on my toes) but I rarely do my fingernails. They grow really fast but are not especially strong, and polish seems to weaken them further. The fact that they bend so easily seems to make polish chip faster, too. I have a good friend who sells Jamberry nail adhesives and I occasionally use those - they stay on well for me and look good until I take them off, but they are even worse than polish for weakening my nails.

I use soft tones like flesh colored or a whitish silver as it compliments my jewelry. I always wear polish. I'll be doing them today.

TG's nails look fine because they are still proud of the finger tip, but this look is one I don't find attractive, even though they are clean and someone has taken time for a manicure. The color just calls attention to the short nails and 'naked' fingertips. When I look at this pic, I can feel that sensation I get when I break a nail to the quick, and something touches the sensitive part. Probably the same way my DD (and rob333) feels when someone touches her feet.

I buff my fingernails now, no polish. My toes are burgundy-dark purple. I really enjoy a pedicure, getting my feet scrubbed clean, nails clipped short, corns, calluses and dry skin scrubbed off, it saves me from having to go to a foot doctor. Plus that electric massage chair!

Those really really long nails scare me. I can only imagine the pain of breaking one down to the quick. Ouch
