interior painting with accessible beige and balanced beige

Im having a terrible time deciding which walls of our open living/nook/kitchen to paint lighter and which ones darker. I intend to paint most of the house in accessible beige, but I’m toying with the idea of accenting the fireplace wall with the darker balanced beige ... and then painting the bar wall and the kitchen with the same darker color. I intend to install plantation shutters in the windows.
I would certainly appreciate any advice I can get! Thank you ...

Personally, I like it the way it is -- a nice light beige. If you want to switch to gray, make sure it goes with your cabinets, flooring, and countertops (paint a large swatch on cardboard and hold it up to all those surfaces). I am not a fan of the darker accents, and I also think both of your paint options are a bit dark.

On my monitor, both colors look gray. I plan on using Accessible Beige in rooms very similar to yours, but the paint looks much warmer and not gray. It must be the lighting.

We just painted our interior and built-in separate, but similar, colors to achieve the contrast you are talking about. We went with BM Dove Wing for ALL of the interior (walls, ceilings, trim), but BM Revere Pewter for the built-in. It makes for a distinctive, yet somewhat subtle, contrast. We like to consider LRV values to judge how different various colors truly are. Here they are for the two we used and the two you are considering: BM Dove Wing: 79.2 BM Revere Pewter: 55.5 SW Agreeable Gray: 60.0 SW Accessible Beige: 58.0 What are the materials of your walls and cabinets? If sheet rock and wood, respectively, I think you can expect there to be a natural contrast even if using the same paint color.

@Lori, this is too funny and I’m so happy you confirm my hunch! I’d settled on York Gray CW-45, but wondered if I could find a great equivalent by SW for the savings! I’ve read your blog thoroughly, and that’s what made me think Accessible Beige is very, very close!

I really don't think it looks very grey in person. It is definitely a brown based color. My DD has almost her entire house BB and we have a lot. We are all anti-grey and wouldn't be very happy with it. DD is 26, first house, just getting into decorating, she told me a few weeks ago that "it is just a really nice go with anything color". I had to chuckle inside about her saying that.
