The June 2017 Version of My Hosta Walk (Back Garden)
Comments (15)zkathy, no the trees were not planted specifically to be harvested but they were arranged neatly by the neighbour who donated/planted them well over 30 years ago. And those balls on stems are my FAKE ALLIUMS. They've been there over a year, even over winter. I just wanted to add a little quirky fun colour to that spot. They are actually aluminum foil balls covered with leftover wool and stuck on metal driveway marker sticks (painted green to look like stems)! Close up:...See MoreHosta Lakesides only 2017
Comments (56)mctav, your blue hostas always get my attention! The Lakeside Blue Jeans is beautiful, and the two blues to the left of Lakeside Sparkle Plenty look nice too. This time I gotta ask about a yellow hosta though. If you don't mind, could you tell me what is to the right of Lakeside Storm Watch? I don't have any Lakesides yet, but your guys' Paisley Print looks tempting (as does that Blue Jeans). I had to stop adding any more names to my wish list since it got way too long with this year's alphabet and I probably won't be able to add many hostas on this year. Anxious (and excited) to see if all of last year's additions come back this Spring, and how they look this year. Pip counting can't get here soon enough!...See MoreHosta Mini 2017
Comments (38)I love the minis. I owe my entire obsession to dhaven. And now it's on! I have a few and am trying to mix them in with larger hostas as well. Last year, I wanted soe of my minis to stand out from their friends, so I created a raised area for them. I'm looking forward to them filling in this season. Two of my favorites are Baby Bunting and Cherish. But I love them all and have quite a few still on my wish list. I got this BME and friend in one pot at a garden center last Summer. I divided the blue from the other one and planted them separately. I have the Little Hosta Book. It's really wonderful. So is Carolyn's Shade Garden website....See MoreHosta Giants 2017
Comments (31)Great Giants. My biggest giant counting both leaf and mound is probably Niagara Falls. One year when I was measuring there were quite a few leaves above 17 inches. It survived being transplanted a few years ago and now has the advantage of having elbow room - a rarity in my garden. Green Gables (Sum and Sub sport) leaves have gotten to over 20" though the mound is not as enormous as others. I am in trouble with the garden below. Every year I have to move some of the giants and very large ones out of the back row. I am being swallowed by Hoosier Dome and Piedmont Gold in 2016...See Morewindymess z6a KC, Ks
