Mudroom dilemma: Butler's Pantry or Bench?
Comments (13)I have a small bench with a shelf and pegs in the mudroom, DD sits there to put her shoes on and sometimes to take off, my dad will sit there as well (can't bend over) - when she doesn't have her backpack, coat, etc. thrown there. Everyone else takes their shoes off standing up, can bend over to tie them, and hangs up coats. DS hangs his backpack on a brass hook screwed into studs behind the door - I have 2, but the top one seems to be used for coats (the wooden pegs in the shelf have gotten loose) so instead of hanging his backpack high and hers low, he hangs his low and she leaves hers (and her books, artwork from school, etc.) on the bench. I second the tall "locker" style cabinets - with hooks and shelves inside. One other thing I would like to find room for in my tiny entry-way (mudroom is also a laundry room, so just the space between the garage and kitchen doors is available) is a grab bar - my dad will sit down if there's room, but my mom tends to hang onto a door knob to take her shoes off and slip on, the kitchen door is almost always open so the door swings a little, and I don't think it's good for the hinges to have a lot of weight on them - it's a little different than just turning the knob to open or close the door, having someone leaning on the knob while standing on 1 foot, and the door wiggling back and forth. If it weren't for the fact that we live in a cold climate and sometimes do close that door for an "air lock" I'd just remove it and case the opening. It's also nice to be able to close that door and not see the shoes, backpacks and coats....See MoreMudroom Hamper Dilemma (to see or not to see is the question)
Comments (5)i found one that is similar to this at home goods, which i keep beach towels in at our vacation house. i wish i could have gotten two, and had one for clean, one for dirty. i wouldnt do something in canvas, i think damp towels would get mildewy faster than you'd like. and unlike your own laundry, there wouldnt be 'personal items' in these, just sheets and towels. guest really respond to items like this, i found. i also think if there was a specified 'dirty' cart they'd be likely to strip their sheets proactively. also in the laundry is a galvanized bucket that has 'HOUSEKEEPING' stenciled on it, that has all of the bathroom cleaning supplies. i carry that from bathroom to bathroom as i dislike seeing cleaning supplies in a bathroom, and many weekend guests have commented on it....See MoreMy mudroom/laundry room combo is driving me crazy!
Comments (1)The smallest spaces can sometimes be the most to difficult to deal with! However, who you have a busy household you can't let any space go to waste. Without knowing specific dimensions I would highly recommend built in cabinetry (you see different examples in the photos I've attached). This can make the space efficient, tidy, and even give it new purposes! We love solving design dilemmas so please reach out if you have any questions! Comments (0)Hello, looking for advice on your best laundry room/mudroom combo layout in room 10’ long by 8’ wide with only an entrance on one end. We have top load washer and dryer so we can’t stack. Would love a small utility sink too. Trying to figure out the most efficient use of our space while also having cubbies/coat closet. Thanks!...See MoreD M PNW
