What to do about chimney we want exterior faced with stone?
Comments (1)I am so sorry!!! It may be too late for this but have you considered an Isokern style fireplace? It is a masonry look (can't tell the difference) but it is a third the cost. It came highly recommended by my architect (who builds very high end homes) and he says he uses them all the time. They work very well (there is another brand also that looks and works well) and helps with the construction issues inherent in true masonry fireplaces....See Morewhat do I do around this fireplace? make an accent wall? built ins?
Comments (34)To answer questions, yes we gutted and opened up this home. We want our family room just inside the front door as it functions well for watching children playing outside. (Rather than a formal living room, but we want to create a NICE space) The dining room has the fireplace and is open to the kitchen, which has an amazing 10’ island with a bar height side with 4 seats and then a counter height end for food prep. We’re loving the kitchen tho still waiting on light fixtures and backsplash. The flow is working well for us but the furniture placement and how to highlight the fireplace and it’s area is the challenge! Thank you BTW we DO have another room that would serve as the formal dining room but we don’t have that need at this time and are using it as a lovely home/mom office and playroom, so toys stay in there and not all over the house....See MoreWhat kind of media unit for this massive wall in our family room?
Comments (21)SuzyQ, I don't know I didn't think to look at RH consoles. I only looked at their large media cabinets. Thanks for the suggestion. Chiflipper, the cabinet guy did mention about having to go behind the wall to beef up the studs to hold the unit. I just think he wasn't comfortable with it because he hasn't done it before. And you are absolutely right about the upper kitchen cabinets! I never even thought about it that way. But, also my kids don't climb on the counters to pull on the kitchen cabinets. A mounted wall unit, if at the height I wanted, would be within reach of my kids and I would still have a fear of them pulling it down....See MoreWhat should we do here with stone
Comments (7)I think you are having trouble finding a similar picture because it isn't a great way to lay things out. A window above a fireplace, just looks wrong and tells us it is a "fake" fireplace. TV above the fireplace is another choice that gets very split feed back, most hate them or love them, with not much in between. I also don't think it will be comfortable on the eyes, to view the TV with that large window shining light right back in your face. Do you plan on having motorized blackout shades on those high windows to make viewing TV easier on the eyes?...See MoreA Hart
