Purplish tones like your wall can be very sophisticated when used with neutral colors. If you tape a piece of white paper on on the wall and then take a photo of it in daylight and night, we'll have a better idea of the true color. Different light bulbs and different computer screens can cause colors to look off, and the white paper gives us a baseline. If you don't want to spend a lot on decor, second hand stores are a great resource. People get tired of stuff, or move, and their things no longer look right. I'm also a fan of spray paint. If a picture frame, or maybe a large bowl/platter for your coffee table, is the right size and shape, it can be any color you want including metallic. It could be something from a resale store or something that you already have in another room. The new spray paints will stick to just about anything. Post some pictures as you go along and I'm sure we'll have some more suggestions. Do you have anything in other rooms that you think might work here?

What Beverly shows you works well and looks terrific to start. The only thing I would change is the TV - change it to what katinparadise and rthawk described. The console your TV is on now is contributing to the visual clutter - and their solution will eliminate that and clear up that corner area. Your room looks so much better with the sectional moved to the long wall. That sofa table Bevs shows really works with that end of the sofa - so you can add a lamp and make the room even more cozy. Hi John! I like option 1 because I don't like opening the door and falling into the living room. Option 1 is also good because it gives you the possibility of adding more seating if you find you are the just the host with the most and your parties are larger. I like the furniture pieces you have selected, they have clean lines and are contemporary and masculine, however for interest and variety I would add something curvilinear and stuffed, such as a round stuffed large ottoman on which you put up your feet, rest a tray, and it could also serve as an extra seat. If it is large enough it might even seat two (if they know each other well :) You can find one in leather, tufted or not, according to your taste. Or a velvet is sumptuous too, but I think a leather will hold up better to feet and trays being slip across it. Also, with your furniture being mostly clean lines and rectilinear it is important to have artwork and a few bibelots with curvilinear shapes and textures and material from nature. Think about what of those things you like that you might want to incorporate. Less is more of course, a few well-chosen things is all you need. Good luck!

Interesting framed art on the walls and plants in the windows where they can get light. A mirror placed where it can reflect light into the room. Drapes that hang to the floor.
