Hardening Off in Rainy Weather?
Comments (3)I have been hardening off in the rain. As Shrubs said, bring them in or cover them if there's torrential downpours (tends to make the fragile plants lie down!), but otherwise, the rain is fine. The cloud cover is actually better than intense sun at first. Go for it. In case you have a late frost, and have to bring everything in, that "skipped" day won't bother them. The process has still started....See MoreTRES are back...not good....cold and rainy weather
Comments (5)It sure is Lisa! It is going to be 60 and sunny here tomorrow! And my blues are finally back at it! I saw the male perched multiple times on one of the boxes of my pair. On the opposite box was a TRES. No fighting! They appear to have their boxes chosen and standing guard! And Mrs. Blue is getting closer and closer to that box! I have HOSP to trap tomorrow (Neighbor's PUMA house and boxes at other trail...80 on sunday! 50's and 60's next week. Is this NOT the PERFECT forecast for nest building?! Seeing the blues so much more active, a beautiful forecast, some things to do, having the TRES...I am SO excited! There's much more to happen in the coming weeks with nest building, hummingbirds returning, trees blooming...it's gray now but full fledged spring is on its way! And I sure can't wait! I just LOVE spring and summer! My boxes are so out in the open though that I've never had Dees...they are nice birds. But I absolutely love those beautiful insect eating Bluebirds, Swallows, and Martins! It reminds you that the battle vs. the HOSP MUST go on! Good luck Lisa! Because the season will get very active very soon!...See MoreRainy ,rainy day.....I guess I'll have to clean house....lol
Comments (11)I have been busy bringing in the plants that I want to keep over the Winter. I brought the two Hibiscus in a couple days ago since the weather guy was warning us of a frost. Today I cut back the Mandavilla and brought it in. Also two large hanging begonias and one Coleus. I've never tried to keep a Coleus, but it was just too pretty to throw out. They are all in the end of the garage where I have an entrance door with windows. Also I dumped some container plants, and took down the deck umbrella and brought it in. I'm right proud of myself!! The weather today has been perfect with sunshine, and temps in the high 60's. S'posed to get some of that rain on Saturday, when the family will be here for my DD's birthday. I hope it will hold off though. Enjoy the weather while we can. Winter is just aeound the bend. Sue...See MoreWhat an unusually warm weather we've been having..
Comments (31)Some 95% of my roses have new growth and buds right now. Even some of the once bloomers are pushing growth. The only properly dormant ones are Cardinal de Richelieu, Tuscany Superb and Felicite Parmentier - even Charles de Mills is growing a little. I am wondering if the dry late summer/autumn fooled them into thinking that was winter - my finicky Mme Pierre Oger is pushing new flower buds. Of course due to low light, and the incessant rain, the flowers I'm getting are mostly small and battered, but I cut a dozen or so buds for the table over xmas. What is more bothersome is that the bare roots I heeled in due to excessive wet making it difficult to dig are all attempting to leaf out. There's a semi dry spell forecast for the next few days so I shall attempt to get them in and wince at the lawn later....See Morefunctionthenlook
