Great idea to use the tape to determine the perfect size you need. I would suggest bringing home broadloom carpet samples and when you find one you like have it cut and bound.

If you're ever going to build a real fire in the fireplace, do make certain any rug you buy is rated for near the hearth.

You might be more apt to find a hearth rated rug if you were searching for a smaller one -- one to set beneath your coffee table that will set just under the front sofa legs and that will extend beyond the table on both sofa and hearth side the same amount.

I agree about the broadloom. Go to a real rug store, try to find one that sells remnants of high end broadlooms. (I've also seen stores that sell remnants over internet). They will cut and bind it to your exact measurements. They will probably also cut a felt pad to match, which will be important to soften your tile floor. I have two beautiful wool broadloom rugs made in this manner. A quality wool rug will give you many years of service.

If you're actually going to be burning firewood, not all rugs are rated as suitable for in front of the fireplace.

The bench ottoman you have works well visually. You could wall around a pair of these easier.

I like the first blue All modern rug ad the Tayse Expression Area rug. like how the blue appears to have a bit of tan and gray in the rug. The IRush Grass storage box is intriguing but probably not the best ottoman as is says it has not been weight tested for sitting according to a question posted. But the storage part sounds great. The fireplace is a direct vent gas fireplace. We use it often in the winter as we're located in the "Bold North" aka Minnesota. So no worries there but I like knowing there are hearth rated rugs; that might be something for our lake home. I do want to keep a bit of space in front of the fireplace so was targeting a size that all the legs of the sectional would sit on. Thanks for the ottoman links. I was wondering if a round ottoman would extend beyond the end of the chaise and look awkward? I am going to stay away from red as this great room was cranberry red for many years and I just want a change. I like the X leg ottoman for our living room!

Hi mstein! The sofa looks great-looks like the perfect size and very comfy. Are you trying to stay in a mid mod style like the first rug you posted? Do you care at all for the tribal look? A 7x9 might work. Or a square rug in an 8x8. Have you looked at flor.com. They're carpet tiles and you can get a 7x8, which is 20 tiles. You can order samples and extra tiles so if one gets ruined, you toss it and replace it. They're also easy to clean. Here you go.

@kateinparadise - hello again! I’m pretty open on the rug look. I was thinking that something with some color or pattern might be a good way to go in the rug as the room is pretty neutral overall. I’ve heard of Flor.com but had not considered that for an area rug. Might have to check that as an option.
@ CMC Studios & @ P Banos - I ran out of time to go looking for a broadloom carpet to have made into a rug. I’m having foot surgery Monday morning so will be stuck at home for a while :-(
and limited to on-line shopping during that time. If I don’t find something ready made I will go that route when I’m up and around. I also need to get a rug for my bedroom as we just replaced all the carpet with hardwood, and that might be a good option. Trying to focus on one area at a time. I was also reading that felt pads are recommended vs the rubber rug mats. Remnants are a great idea, thank you!

I’m back and recuperating quite well from surgery last week. The sofa chaise has been wonderful for lounging and elevating my leg post surgery. Thanks again @kateinparadise for suggesting this furniture; great size for our space and very comfortable.
I landed up ordering the All Modern rug and have the teal side out and red side at the wall. The size is perfect, it works with the art work we had previously, and the tans are the same as our tile. It looks just like @kjoy1 photoshopped on Feb 26. I’m not posting an updated picture as I have all these extra pillows on the sofa to elevate my leg. Thanks again kjoy1 for your awesome photoshopping skills, SO helpful!
I am also keeping the ottoman I brought in from elsewhere as it fits perfectly here and was undersized where I had it before.
I purchased this lamp for my husband as it has a very slim profile and it had more light than other reading lamps.
Next I would like to find a small table for the side of the sofa, which could hold a beverage, etc. The sofa arm height is 26”, the sofa width is 33”. I’m also looking at Etsy for throw pillows and open to suggestions there also. The pillows I got with the sofa are linen look with stripes containing charcoal, navy and dusty silver blue. They seem fine alone but I am open to getting something more interesting. Thanks!!!

Glad to hear you're on the mend! And again, you're very welcome. I like a C table at the arm of the sofa when there's not a lot of room. Very handy for a drink but they don't take up much space.

Thanks for “checking in” @everdebz - nothing has grabbed me yet for end tables for this space. Just using an old C-table we had for now. Planning to be out and about shopping in approximately 2 weeks if post surgery restrictions are lifted and the snow goes away! The new bench for my entry arrived today, yay! Was thinking of posting my current dilemma- need a rug for a bedroom. We removed carpet and installed hardwood floors in our main level bedrooms a week before we received this sofa/chaise, so a few things going on at once.
