Thursday's blooms before they're burnt
Comments (12)Condilla always does look good, doesn't it Rita. It starts out double & is consistent, every bloom is picture perfect. Great little double daylily, & I'm not big on doubles :) Thanks Kay. The first blooms on that seedling were ok, but the last few have been much nicer. I really like the color of it. I need to get out & water too, Celeste. they are saying we have a remote chance of rain tonight though, so I'm going to wait. I really should water though, that would up my chances of rain, I'm sure. I think you are right Debra, it might be a great bridge plant. I can't think what I could have pollinated New Dawn with to have gotten this height, about all I had then I can think of was Firestorm or Autumn Minaret. And neither of those have this kind of bud count. There are 4 scapes, one has 29, 2 have 37, & one has 39. Hush Little Baby is lighter today than it was yesterday, must be the heat. Part of it though is my new camera. It isn't an expensive one but I would think a Nikon would get better pictures than an older Kodak, but it doesn't. I keep meaning to get my old camera out & charge it up. It had been having problems, but nothing I couldn't work with for this. Of course, it could be operatoritis too....See MoreAnd They're Off!
Comments (17)Gee, Santa, I was hoping to tell you about the facts of hosta life......first year they creep...second year they sleep...third year THEY LEAP.....like a bedtime story that hostaholics tell their kids, as they grab them and hug them to sleep. Well, I was robbed, I tell you. And there you go totally understanding it because you had the good fortune to have THE most auspicious hosta of all to sundry parties present as you ask this essential question..... AHA, you have a LEAPING GUACAMOLE! I rest at peace tonight, because you are in good hands, and you are a quick learner. Such a Guac is a prized addition to any garden. This is a good year for my mostly-2012 generation hosta. Third year? I sure do hope they are ready to LEAP.....I'm ready to ROCK AND ROLL all summer LONG, baby girl!....as they say in L.A. (Lower Alabama). Show me 8 lovelies leaping....See MoreWhat happened? They're different.
Comments (21)Cookie8 - could you post a pic of your "light pink" blooms (and the whole bush) on here? We are having fun trying to figure out what the rootstock is - I agree that it most probably is NOT Dr. Huey. Rootstock is just another type of rose. Many different rootstocks have been used over the years. One of my favorite roses in my garden is 'de la Grifferaie', which came up as rootstock from a modern yellow standard (tree) rose. Jackie...See MoreWhat "very fragrant" roses smell like nothing to you and vice versa?
Comments (49)So pretty! I had to laugh at your comment, lyanna. People often do tune out on me when I start in on roses. Every once in a while, someone’s interested. Maybe they’re just being polite, I don’t know. Noseo, I adore your bobcat family photo! How amazing they must have been to see. It’s been many years since I’ve seen one around here, not since I was a child. Rosefolly, I always detect a wonderful scent from Annie Laurie McDowell, and I don’t have the best sniffer. I’m looking forward to planting out the ALMD that Kim budded for me onto Pink Clouds. I’m making sure my battle with Dr. Huey is over in her spot first. I think I may have gotten rid of him for good this time. I just want to be sure, as it will be so much harder once ALMD is there. I don’t want anything happening to that precious rose! By the way, I looked it up, and found that 10% of people actually like the scent of skunk! I guess I’m not the only one. Today, I’m smelling Baronne Prevost. She’s not quite as strong as my Bourbon roses, but still strong and wonderful. Lisa...See MoreSara-Ann Z6B OK
