Do You Talk to the People Whose Leaves You Pick Up?
Comments (12)People in our municipality generally have a habit of placing raked and bagged - and sometimes shredded ;)- leaves close to the curb before pick-up day. Then they move them to the curb on what we call 'green cart' day. (Our municipality composts so one week they pick up all compostables and recyclables, and the next week it's regular landfill garbage. We have these big green carts where homeowners place the compostables and then wheel it out to the curb.) I always talk to the homeowners since the bags are not set directly at the roadside in most cases. Everyone is always interested in their use, but most are not gardeners so they really don't want the leaves. One guy does shred some and leave them on his lawn, but he's got so many he puts 1/2 to the curb, and the other 1/2 he throws in the woods behind his house. Since meeting him, he now bags everything for me and is happy to see me every year. I have about 50 bags of his stuff under our veranda waiting to be shredded. I've been collecting from one particular household for 4 years now. I had received permission from the 'man of the house' to drive unto his property to get the shredded goodies. This fall, his wife came out and expressed an interest in gardening since she was retiring. I gave her my personal info for her to get in touch with me in the spring so I can give her a boatload of perennials and young shrubs! And if it so happens that they start using the goodies I've been getting from them, then all the better!...See MoreISO good Philly-area granite fabricator & bianco antico-like slab
Comments (6)I live in Southern Chester County. I used Stone Masters in Kennett Square. They did fabulous work. (I have BA) In fact I was in there yesterday with a friend looking for her counters. Their prices might not be the cheapest around, but I feel you really are paying for the craftsmanship and you get it from them. Let me know if you do go, I'll tell you whom to ask for. Here is a link that might be useful: Stone Masters...See MoreCool or warm, how do you meet people?
Comments (17)The opposite of reserved isn't pushy. But people who are reserved sometimes think so. I like being with and meeting people, I always try to be sincerely friendly and outgoing, it's definitely not situation-dependent for me. In a reverse way from what others have said, I can usually sense someone whose nature tends toward being introverted. Such people may struggle with or make no effort toward conversation. I never try to coerce people like that to be other than how they are, I'll usually move on to others who aren't uncomfortable with conversation....See MorePhilly people
Comments (14)Thank you for your detailed responses! The job would be in the main hospital building, in the IT department. The apartment buildings that were suggested by the University looked nice and were around $2000 per month for a 1 bedroom (2400 Chestnut and The Left Bank). She has a car and would probably want to keep it but it would depend on the expense of parking and insurance. The salary offer should be around 6 figures. She currently lives in a very inexpensive area so moving to a high COL area is going to be an adjustment, even with a good salary. She will have to do a lot less eating out and shopping and there will be more temptations. I'll keep you posted. Thank you for your advice....See Moresushipup1
