ISO good Philly-area granite fabricator & bianco antico-like slab

Our 9' island slab cracked on install (when the fabricators guys lifted it up so that all the weight was on the side with the prep sink cutout). The fabricator apologized and did try to find the same stone- even drove to upstate NY (2-3 hours away)-- but it's not the same. My stone was called blue lagoon but reminds me of bianco antico -- but I'm not sure I like the slab she found and am also seriously questioning the ability of her fabricator based on what we've seen (rough seam, measured but didn't template the island with prep sink until we pushed, hesitation about doing

a zero reveal for the sink, and GC thinks they mismeasured the cut

out for the prep sink anyway .)

I'm waiting to see the new slab polished, to compare it my broken one, and to see if they can actually do the zero reveal for the sink.

I'm torn between accepting it so that my kitchen can be finished....

or starting from scratch to find a similar stone - and a new fabricator if I

can find one that's recommended!

If you have had good results with one around Philly suburbs or South Jersey I'd really appreciate a name!!

I live across the country so i don't know a fabricator, but wanted to say don't settle!! I know you want it to be done. You will have to look at the granite for many years and, if you are like me, it'll bug you every day if you are disappointed by the counter. Find the right slab. Good luck!

I live in Southern Chester County. I used Stone Masters in Kennett Square. They did fabulous work. (I have BA)

In fact I was in there yesterday with a friend looking for her counters. Their prices might not be the cheapest around, but I feel you really are paying for the craftsmanship and you get it from them.

Let me know if you do go, I'll tell you whom to ask for.

kitchenaddict-my granite is called golden lapidus and DH and I love it but the delicatus would have allowed me to keep my old appliances which were white. I could have waited to replace them. Unfortunately, the white clashed with my granite so stainless is now sitting in my kitchen-smudges, fingerprints, and all!! The granite is in a category labeled Old World/Tuscan-very earthy colors-butterscotch, caramel, hot fudge brown, black, gray, some white, lots of sparkly things. When I saw the delicatus it was too late but it would have worked in my kitchen. BA is a very nice granite but I like something that's more off the beaten track. I've only seen one other kitchen with my granite on the finished kitchens web site. Haven't seen a lot of kitchens with delicatus but if you google delicatus granite it will bring up a page that has a link to an old post 08/08 talking about this granite with pics. You can see the kitchens of daki, iris16, and dd70. Good luck.

Yellowdog2 - I still love the pietra, but it definitely not as durable as the quartzite. I do have a few chips on the face next to the stove (I think it could be from cleaners trying to handle the heavy cast iron grates from the blue star stove) and many tiny chips around the undermount sink (from me during klutzy clean up.) But the chips around the sink seem to soften/slightly wear over time. In retrospect, I may have opted for an apron front sink the was flush or overlay versus undermount on the sides, but maybe not because I didn't want to spend money on that. Additionally, I don't know if the sealer my fabricator used was the right one. Everything wet leaves a dark mark that fades over a few minutes or hours depending on what it is. I kind of like the variation, but I have read that that is a sign that a stone is not sealed well. I just love the color and tone of the stone and do not regret my choice at all. The funny part is I bypassed the soapstone because a friend has a soft variety that has very large chips all around the sink (mine are relatively small.) Lastly, my fabricator has a hard time with the seam, the edges of the pieces were chiped up and they didn't color the adhesive well. They had to do it over again. I don't know if it was a function of a worn tool or that it was more brittle (which is what they told me.) But they were able to rework it and it looks OK, but not great. So it is full disclosure here and I hope I haven't scared you. I just really love how the two stones compliment and do not compete with each other, but don't look matchy either. Good luck :)

Hi bahacca, I had a HARD time choosing and budget is also a big concern for me in this kitchen reno (journey). Now I want to go to Bedrosians and see those beautiful slabs! I have a really good fabricator that is very reasonable. Maybe that could help make Fusion work in your budget??? Would love to meet you at Daltile. I need to pick my BS. Let's plan a time to rendezvous. Bee-just saw the thread on your kitchen in the Cote de Texas. SOOOOO beautiful! Just the perfect amount of sparkle and the arabesque looked perfect with the BA. Bianco Antico Granite

I'm having Bianco Antico granite countertops put into my kitchen. I thought this granite was primarily white, gray, black, and brown, yet I saw a couple random spots of blue in my granite. I've included pics below for reference, but does anyone know if it's natural for blue to pop up in Bianco Antico or is it just me? I've tried researching online, but cannot find any pictures or sources stating that having blue is natural. Any help is appreciated in putting my mind at ease.

Stone Masters in Kennett Square is very good and if they have the stone you want I would go with them. If not try Colonial Granite in King of Prussia. They have an amazing selection. They have BA in one of their showroom kitchens which is gorgeous. We dealt with Alberto who was very helpful.

Just in case those don't work out I used The Marble Source in Ottsville (near Doylestown I think). They work with a supplier called International Granite and Marble (IGM) and the warehouse is just outside Allentown, Pa.

Both of them were through my cabinet maker but I was very happy with the selection and the craftsmanship and the installation.

Good luck and I hope you get a stone and an installation that you LOVE!
