Bathroom sinks/vanity are IN bedroom, not bathroom- HUH?
Comments (30)My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in....See MoreBig Mudroom or small mudroom and half bathroom
Comments (24)I like a laundry room that I can close off from the rest of the house. I wouldn't care for a combo room (laundry/mud/powder) I don't think but clutter really bothers me ;). With dirty, sweaty boys I do a lot of laundry and there is almost always a laundry basket with clothes to be put away in there. . . I prefer to shut the door on it rather than have to walk by it to use the restroom or hang up my coat/purse, but that is just me. That is also the reason I didn't want lockers in my hallway - I have a separate mudroom in the back hall with a door I can close in case of company. I didn't want the first view in from my garage to be of backpacks and lunch boxes ;). Instead, everyone has to take a couple of extra steps to hang up their stuff, which is no different than they do now, and I get a view from my garage entrance of my breakfast table and french doors to the outside . . . I know this wouldn't work for everyone (there were plenty of people who wanted me to change my mudroom to something you would walk through to enter the house) but I know myself well enough to know that that would drive me nuts ;). I also know this doesn't work for everyone, so think of how you live and your comfort level with clutter because both laundry rooms and mud rooms seem to attract it, at least in my house!...See MoreDoes this bathroom sink placement look okay?
Comments (31)It looks fine and achieved what you wanted. People love to follow the norm and never challenge what is traditionally done. In reality vanity counters are always cluttered with care products. Creating a space behind the sink is rater clever. In a bath having the sink as close to the forward edge is the best solution as you pull away from the sink from washing the water drips into the sink rather then the counter. I would guess you wanted the faucet closer to the sink but that is dictated by faucet and sink design. You have to have clearance for a faucet to be secured to the top which is done by a nut. This dictates how close you can actually get to the sink. It look fine and we follow many design aspects that make little sense. Take the counter where the faucet is mounted. If counters were cut with slope into the sink where the faucet is water would be directed into the sink everytime we shut off a faucet with wet hands. Nobody wants to change or challenge these technical details but obviously there is room for improvement....See MoreSmall mudroom and bathroom layout
