Snow to clean a Persian rug?
Comments (19)I'm sorry I don't know anything about snow cleaning. I've sent my Karastan wool rug out for washing a few times, but was recently told not to clean it so often. The place washed it and hung it to dry. I was told to vacuum crosswise, but not lengthwise on the lovely Persian rug I just bought and no beater bar. When I told the seller that my dog headed straight for the new rug the seller said it is ok to let the dog sleep on the rug. She's not a smelly dog, but I think she could have confined herself to the old Karastan rug instead of sleeping on the fine new beautiful soft rug. Dog has good taste, though!...See MoreValuable Persian Tabriz Rug
Comments (57)Others have already mentioned this, but have you had the rug's value assessed by a professional? If you don't find an auctioneer, you might want to get an independent valuation, as well as a more detailed description (thread count, style, estimated age, abrash, etc.) Also have the rug cleaned professionally and note that in your listing (smell is a big concern for buyers who are considering a purchase sight-unseen.) A few more photos wouldn't hurt either - I've bought a couple of semi-antique carpets on Ebay, at a much lower price point, and they typically have at least a dozen shots from different angles, each of the carpet, several close-ups, etc. Unfortunately, the price your father paid is not necessarily the most accurate way to gauge the price that you can reasonably hope to get. People who value beautiful old Persian carpets often know a great deal about the construction -- and many know how to find bargains. (A long time ago, my Iranian inlaws bought us several beautiful rugs for really low prices from the equivalent of a Persian-language home shopping channel.) It's worth the extra step of a professional valuation to make sure that you've got the rug priced right and advertised most effectively....See MoreKazak rugs/Persian rug - affordable options

Comments (13)I would do both the same....I have an off white sofa ottoman and love seat in a room with a large Persian rug in the red tones and I like it a lot....on the other hand I have a soft rosy, cream and blue striped sofa in another room with a red toned Persian rug....and I like that look too, albeit more formal. If you really have a huge room, you might think of the new sofa being very long and upholster it the same as the older one...unless you are looking for the balance of 2 like sized pieces. and please don't cheapen and compromise that lovely rug with cheap looking "persian rug" throw pillows....See Morezmith
