Any day off is a good day to cook!
Comments (6)Can't remember ever NOT having pork & sauer kraut, with some kinda potatoes, on New Years Day. Sister has long been transplanted from the SE PA area to the DC area, so she also has black-eyed peas. Ive never had them... no particular reason, just haven't. Decided to cook/eat my way outta 2013 and into 2014. Thought I had a decent sized hunka pork in freezer, but NO? Did find a half rack of baby backs... cooked them yesterday and have been picking at them since last night. Since hunka pork I had was small (about half of a single pork tenderloin) went out this morning for something more substantial... left-overs only seem to get better IMO... lunch for tomorrow when back to school after a LONG break. Have some frozen periogies getting ready to be boiled up and added to porl/kraut. I like to cook pork a LONG time... till falling apart....See MoreHappy New Year everyone! Cooking on our Chambers
Comments (16)egganddart--we found this stove after searching the internet after falling in love with old stoves found at a place in north GA that re-did our 1951 fridge. I actually fell for a 6-burner Roper at first but nothing was available at that time so started searching while our fridge was being done. As mentioned above, our baby was not re-done the way our fridge was, only cleaning and converting to propane, and we love the little nicks and scratches in the porcelain. We loved it even more when we saw the exact same one the website of the person who did our fridge for twice the price. Granted, that stove would have been totally taken apart and re-done and would look brand new, but we wouldn't have traded ours for it. Besides, we had a great time on our road trip to pick her up. marthavilla--Your kitchen is looking good, too--especially that red hood and stove! I can't promise when our kitchen will be done as DH and I aren't the fastest and I only get up on weekends and holidays. Right now we are at the stage where we are doing the priming, painting, trimwork, and miscellaneous work before moving on to the next phase (flooring). It's amazing, I start on one project that I thought would go quickly and several hours later finally finish. We did get the ceiling in the new part of the den wallpapered with beadboard wallpaper with the help of my SIL and newphew (posted pics on Decorating Forum). We haven't painted it yet but are really happy with the way it turned out and I will be ordering more to do the kitchen and breakfast/keeping room (SIL has even volunteered to come back and help again, LOL). DH is working some on my pantry and hopefully I will have some pics of it soon to post--it's got old screen advertising doors on it and I'm loving how it's turning out! Thanks again, everyone! Hope y'all all have a great New Year in 2009!...See MoreBeing as I'm not cooking, eating out instead, here's the menu

How was yours? Eat in or dine out?
Comments (25)DD took me to brunch at the restaurant in her hotel (she is the COO of the brand company). We celebrated Mother's Day and her birthday the day before. DGS had to work and her DH hates going out to brunch - puts him in a food coma. We would never have gone out to anywhere but her own restaurant as the food is often not very good, service rushed and food often not very good at all. But ours was outstanding in every way! I had never had Eggs Benedict done on a biscuit before, but believe me, that's the way to go! No tough English muffin that is so hard to cut, one risks ending up with it in ones lap. Delicious! After DGS2 got off work, her family came over the homemade angel food cake with whipped cream and raspberries. So we did celebrate her birthday separately. She's always hated that her birthday and Mother's Day are often close together - occasionally even the same day. DS and his children (and the cat!) sent me some really lovely flowers - very unusual bouquet. DD also brought me a single gardenia, floating in what looked like an over-sized saucer champagne glass. Perfumes my library - just heavenly! It was a chilly, rainy afternoon. My two dogs gave me a wonderful Mother's Day present of a nap on my lap while I dozed as well. Perfect day!...See More- 7 years ago
