Light or dark floor for Grey/White kitchen?
Comments (8)I like edenaurora's wood look tile-might try even a little warmer shade. I'd stick with medium....[not super dark tone ] to play with the dark gray base cabinets. Too dark a floor presents maintenance issues and very light presents contrast. To me, the nice thing about dark grey base cabs is that they will recede into being a neutral palette/backdrop.....so you want a floor that plays along...you could go with taupe- or some wood tones present....but with the same intensity of shading. I don't think it has to be strictly a gray tone. They have resilient products of all sorts now-vinyl planks/etc. Tile is for some folk--way too hard for myself and others....See MoreTrying to decide between gray or warm light brown wood look tile
Comments (39)Kim, I think you are wise to not use the gray you posted above.....way too busy. Have you thought of doing a large format (24x36") porcelain tile? I feel like the porcelain FAUX-WOOD TILES are too short and look too busy. The grains and patterns need to be subtle and should be at least 6-8" wide to mimic current wood floors. A large format tile (stone or porcelain) in a neutral color would be beautiful. What about carrara marble in large format (18x36")? Would be stunning! https://tilebar.com/catalina-white-carrara-18x36-marble-tile.html Check out all the beautiful blue marbles for your kitchen -- so gorgeous! https://tilebar.com/collection/marble/blue-marble.html Go here to check out some beautiful options. They have a great website to navigate.... https://tilebar.com/lookbook Or, if you go gray, go with a tile vs a faux wood. https://tilebar.com/metropol-sensation-grafito-lappato-24x24-porcelain-tile.html Love this too. Light and bright and not too gray.... https://tilebar.com/archea-grigio-24x36-porcelain-tile.html Check out their Versace tiles too. Large format, so pretty! The large gray (15x30" porcelain) would be beautiful! https://tilebar.com/designer-tiles/versace.html I'm a fan of gray, just not FAUX WOOD GRAY! It just isn't natural........See MoreShould I go with bronze, white, or gray skylight?
Comments (13)Hi I'm 95% sure that I'm going with the clear Veluz glass with the UV protection and heat reduction glass (see articles posted above). The reason is bc I'm scared of any weird color tints from the bronze and gray, and like you worried the white glass will be too bright. If after installing the clear, I'm getting too much light and/or heat, I'll install white blackout shades on them to blend in with my white ceiling. Ps my roof person told me I currently have bronze skylights which are original to the house built in 1990. I never noticed a weird tint in my house, per se (my paint colors are white paints Sherwin William's High Reflective White on ceiling and trim and pale gray - sherwin William's Snowbound) but I have always wondered why with such bright paint colors why my colors look so dingy. Maybe that is why (or maybe its bc of my darker floors). Hope that helps! But definitely check out the above articles on the Velux glass....See MoreShould I try to update floor to ceiling 70’s flagstone fireplace?
Comments (12)I think the fireplace is very well done. The main problem is the incremental addition of all the clutter that has occurred. If that were my home, I'd remove every single thing on the hearth, the two lamps, and -- though you probably don't want to hear it -- that television. The tv is a distracting focal point and it's very high placement is terrible from an ergonomic standpoint. Yes, people put tv sets above the mantel all the time, but that doesn't make it a good idea either from a practical or a design standpoint. The placement of a tv for viewing comfort should be approximately at a height where the midpoint of the screen is at eye level or a little higher when you are seated; yours is probably 5' higher than it should be. The only thing I would do to that fireplace is paint the mantel -- maybe a semi-gloss black -- and then consider putting one, nice vase on it....See MoreCarolyn
